LOL I might be selling mine to oh wait I dont have them yet guess im just planning ahead ;D Seriously from the research i've done so far i've heard so many different opinions that are night and day about the same amp so i've come to the conclusion that your own personal gear being your processor/avr , speakers and layout/room treatments then top that off with your personal preference and you have many different reviews of he same amp So with that being said I still value each and everyones op here and thankyou again for all the help keep it coming !!!!!!!! It may well depend on what speaker you are driving, I would fully expect an XPA-1 (at 3x the price of a UPA-1) driving a harder load to sound better than a UPA-1. But would you notice as much difference with an easier load (e.g. 6.2, 6.3 etc.), especially when paired with a good sub and rolling off around 80Hz? You can buy an ERM-6.3 + UPA-1 for almost the same price as one XPA-1 ... Yes you've made some very good points and this is what im thinking now is to try 2 UPA-1's and if im not happy then spend the extra 1400 for 2 xpa-1's . I have a week or so before I make my move so thats what im thinking at this point.

That sounds like a plan and by trialling the UPAs you don't have to pay (potentially) extra shipping charges on XPA-1s.

Yes thats the game plan as of now just hope I dont change my mind ;D The XPA-1 is a beauty and until I got two one would be making my center Digm cc-690 sing I bet But I think 2 upa-1's for starters would be the wiser move so i'll have to see if my will power can standthe test lol .

I am also trying to decide on my next move up in my system. I purchased a set of PSB Synchrony Two Towers and Center a few years ago and hooked them to my Denon 4802 AVR and loved the way they sounded. Then I found Emotiva and ordered a XPA-5, connected it to the Denon 7.1 output and the speakers went to a new level, then came the UMC-1 and well they sounded even better, all was good and I was happy. Then came my big mistake I ordered an ERC-1 connected it to the UMC via 7.1 input’s and rediscovered my CD’s now I need more, I want to make sure I aim getting everything these speakers can give.
The PSB Towers are 4 ohms 20-300 watts @ 88 % The PSB Center is 4 ohms 15-200 watts @ 87% The PSB CW260 in the wall surrounds 8 ohm 20-100 watts 87% Keeping the XPA-5 for center and surround.
About 60 % HT 40% music room is 21’ X 24’ with 8’ ceilings carpeted floor some treatment. What to add next I will be keeping the speakers for quite a while?
XPA-1 X 2 XPA-2 X 1 UPA-1 X 2
Or wait to see and see what the XPR-5 and the XPR-2 is all about, is the XPR-2 going to be a set of mono-blocks in a single housing or a single power supply for both channels and are they going to sound better then the XPA’s?

In order to narrow your options you need to start by looking at exactly what you are wanting to improve upon. Are you happy with the performance you are currently obtaining from your existing HT system? If not, what would you like to see improved upon? Based on what I read "between the lines" from your post, I am assuming you are looking to further improve upon the sound quality primarily when listening to music. If I have guessed correctly, then I would look toward the mono block power amps for your solution. Whether you go with the XPA-1s or the UPA-1 you will be taking a step up in your listening pleasure. Then how do you decide which is the better solution for your situation? Again you will need to re-examine your current usage and evaluate where you feel improvements need to be made. What volume level are you listening to your music and does your current system fully meet your sound pressure level? How much headroom does your XPA-5 have at your current listening level? What budgetary constraints are you working with? When looking at which mono blocks to select, is space in your rack a limiting factor? With the size of your listening room and the efficiency rating of your speakers you don't need the power the XPR offers. At this point, we don't know about the relative sonic performance of the XPR Series amps other than Lonnie telling one of the Emofest attendees that the XPA-1 will have better sound quality than the XPRs. All of the Emotiva amps have exceptional sound quality so no matter which way you elect to go you will have an exceptional sound system. If I misread your intentions with your post, then the XPA-2 could well be back in the mix in deciding the best amp to achieve your goals. Both Audioholics and Secrets of Home Theater and HiFi selected the Emotiva XPA-1 and XPA-2 as the best mono amp and the best stereo amp of 2009. Read their reviews for more input as to which option will better match your needs. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply I have the space for the XPA-1’s and will have the resources for them in about a month. I aim leaning more to the 1’s, I' am more interested in improving the two channel audio now but also want to keep the overall sound quality as high as possible. How well does the XPA-1 match the XPA-5 in 5.1 or is the XPA-2 match better. I not in a hurry I want to get this purchase correct because it will be sometime before I make another for this system.

vermont99 The XPA-1 and the XPA-5 have the same sonic signature and provide an excellent match for driving the remaining speakers in your home theater system. The XPA-1 will take your 2-channel listening experience to a new plateau of sonic bliss.

IMHO, this is a no-brainer. Just get the UPA-2, use them for surrounds and be done with it. Since you are getting all these amps from the same company, sonically, they will be similar. It would be a different story if what you really wanted is to see rows/stacks of components on your shelf.
