Evening gents, I am moving from tubes to the Emo for a trial shot as I am thinking of possible bi-amping with tube monos on top and the XPAs on the bottom. I will list my setup in a moment but suffice to say I have VERY efficient speakers.
While awaiting the new pair of XPA-1s arriving Monday, I installed an XPA-3 to have a 'listen' and I was a little disappointed in the apparent floor noise at idle. Now, I be loving the 'in the chest' lows and low mids not so readily heard with my tube amp and it disappears with minor volume but I do hate that hiss. My speeks were dead quiet on tubes.
My question, just because I just got off work, have a cool one in hand and will find out first hand shortly, but for those with efficient speakers that have heard the -3 vs -1 will there be less floor noise (please not more)?
I am running good cabling at about .75 meters unbalanced (no option on the pre)
Pre-Amp: Juicy Music Peach with some nice Mullards Out going amp: NOSValves VRD Stereo 45 (moving to VRD Monos on for the bi-amp) Speakers: Klipsch Belles with 2" V-trac & BMS driver mids, Beyma tweets and stock woofers with ALK universal crossovers. If you are not familiar the stock Belles w/ 1" throat mids are like 103-104 dB @ 1 watt.

I can't help with the specifics of your question, but I can tell you that I have no floor noise with my Cornwalls and an RPA2 or an LPA-1 runing a Cornwall (center) and a pair of Heresys.

I can't detect any floor noise with my Phase Techs, XPA-5 and UMC-1. Then again, the Phase Techs aren't as efficient as your speakers are (91 db).

Zero floor noise from my XPA-3 with my ear pinned up against my speakers. Sensitivity, 91db respectively. Yamaha AVR as pre.

I also had some hiss with an xpa-3. But I have had an xpa-5, 3 xpa-3's and 2 xpa-1's. Out of them all only one xpa-3 has hiss. The one Im using now has zero hiss. Not sure why some have hiss and some dont. I did find out thet with my HK reciever there was more hiss. With my pioneer elite I have yet to have any hiss.

I have some hiss with my xpa-5 and my old studio 60's. My JTR's should be interesting with 103db sensitivity lol but I'll be driving them with my xpa-2 for now.
