Honestly it has not blown me away like I had hoped. The sound for movies DTS HD and DD is great but it is so damn up and down, seeming very weak at times in center area dialogue. I dont have the biggest speaker but still not being in a huge room it should be sufficient too. Part of that is just speaker settings but then again that is what really seems to be the annoyance I have found this to have.
Constantly adjusting levels gets well...just plain irritating. I find I have to turn up movie volume to 30db to hear voices normally but a gun or explosion is almost too high, watching tv is normal and listening to music it seems like a normal level at half the DB of a movie. I know I have adjusted some of levels for each input but it really seems to vary too much.
The fact that Emotiva has completely ignored people's requests to include a multichannel mode sucks. This isnt to listen in party mode but it balances out the shitty cable and dish audio that can change from a program to two channel constantly and the UMC for whatever reason goes into Dolby Prologic music mode......The Outlaw unit I owned had this and in my opinion sounded equally as good for everything except movies and that is just due to DTS and DD HD. It also had a much more stable volume which I could switch from input to input and not have to reach for my remote to adjust volume before switching like with the UMC.
The DD volume has bad sound quality, nothing else to even say about that. I was hoping that the EmoQ would have worked and having run it four times I gave up on it.
I do love the look and size of the unit but really think it fell short of my expectations for some basics. At times it can really sound great and other times it seems like it will never quite make me totally happy.
