Hello one and all,
Lonnie and Big Dan here and we just wanted to give you all a “state of the union” update as it were on the UMC-1.
There is new software (V 7.02) on the update page which has some pretty significant updates to the audio performance of the unit especially in regards to DTS. Full instructions on how to update your unit are also on the page.
Also, in this update we have added some features to Dolby Volume (DV). On the Parameter page when you scroll down to Dolby Volume it had Off, Low, Med, High. You now have the option for Off, Modeler Only, Low, Med and High. The Modeler Only mode is just that, it retains the dynamic EQ settings as you move through the various volume levels, but all other DV settings are disabled. You will also see there is a new function there for Half Mode operation. What this does is as you go above the DV reference point the dynamic characteristics of DV are now ½ of what they would be under normal operation. Levels below the DV reference point still work as they did before. One more feature we’ve added is DV Offset. This is there so that you can adjust the DV reference point to suit your listening needs if you calibrate your system manually. If you use Emo-Q to calibrate and setup your system then DV reference is set automatically.
A couple of things we are still working on for a future release has to do with the occasional shut down issue some of you have reported. We believe we have identified the problem and are in the process of modifying the code to rectify this. One other issue we are still working on is “random” channel loss. We have also been able to identify the cause of this which is related to source units that internally decode and then re-encode the bit stream (think cable boxes and certain Bluray players). Source units that do not do internal decoding do not appear have an issue. So, now that we have identified what is going on we are working on a resolution to this problem. We will make this available as quickly as possible.
Of note, we received a limited number of the replacement microphones and are shipping them out now. As some are aware we did have a batch of mics that were failing for unknown reasons and as a result Emo-Q was not setting itself properly. This does not affect all microphones, but if you have run Emo-Q and are getting erratic results, please let us know and we will get you a replacement as soon as they become available.
Please be aware that there is new front panel code on the UMC update page to resolve the IR conflict between the USP and UMC. If you are not running the USP with the UMC then this will not affect you.
Dan and I are acutely aware of the faith and trust you have put in our company and in our products. It is our sole aim to live up to your expectations and to design and build the highest quality audio products possible. Please rest assured that we will continue to enhance the feature set, and do everything possible ensure rock solid reliability and stability in the UMC-1.
As always we appreciate your support and loyalty and value your feedback.
