Does the XDA-1 render the ERC-1's benefits superfluous when compared with say a dvd player or blu ray player for playing cd's?

From what I understand it's a matter of jitter, I would hope the ERC would do a better job than any blu-ray player in that dept. But I really don't have any measurements, other than stay away from optical output.

The Emotiva ERC-1 has a far better transport mechanism than the typical DVD/Blu-ray player. It is quieter, smoother, faster to load, and it can read damaged CDs that other players can't play at all. Its ability to handle discs is very robust and the entire mechanism is shielded. No flimsy plastic transport in the ERC.

The ERC-1's ability to play CDs not in pristine condition should not be overlooked. I was trying to play a CD that I bought new this year on my Cambridge CDP and it wouldnt play it; it just started spinning. The CD barely had a scratch on it. Which proves the world's best CDP can be worthless if it cant even play the CD. When I had my ERC I could feed it anything without any problems.

The biggest benefit for me is playing scratched cd's and cd-r's that i burned on the computer. Both my samsung brp's had trouble with these.
