Hey all, When I am reading about receivers and setting crossover points, it seems like a lot of people recommend different settings for each speaker pair. For example: set your main L & R channels to 50 hz, center at 80 hz, side surrounds at 100hz, ect. I agree that setting crossover points appropriately is a great idea but it seems to me that a lot of receivers have a "global" crossover setting as opposed to allowing for a different setting per channel. Can you please let me know what brands or models offer this setup flexibility?

Hi Dave,
Denon, Onkyo/Integra, Yamaha, and a bunch more. I think Marantz is OK now too.
Rotel is behind the curve, but now I think they are in line with the rest of the gang. Also Pioneer is lacking on that as it uses a global crossover for all its speakers. You just have to check their specs that's all, or download their manuals.
* And I'm not the type that believe in too large variations of x-overs between different pairs of speakers. Any variation larger than 20 Hz is counter-productive in my opinion.
I like to use a x-over of 80 Hz for all my seven speakers (or 100 Hz with the ones having a mid/woof driver of 5.25" diameter).
Even 100 Hz for all my speakers would be just fine when using Audyssey Auto Room EQ & Calibration system.
In your Rotel receiver, just set them all at 80 or 90 Hz (if allow) and be done with it. That's what I think.
* From your sig I see a two-channel system, do you also have a multichannel setup?

Hey Bob. Thanks for the reply and advice. I never thought to download the manuals for gear to read the details of its functionality. Great idea! As far as my "systems" are concerned. What I have listed currently is all I have hooked up. My HT is basically dismantled at the moment. I have my old receiver, Emo subs, Alesis monitor 1s, and center channel in the spare bedroom just sitting unhooked. There is a Philips 30" CRT HDTV (720p) back there too but nothing is hooked up or plugged in. I had thought about it but I am really liking my 2 ch setup at the moment and would probably not use a second system too much. To be quite honest I am at a bit of a "stop-gap" point with my setup. While eventually I would like to complete a 7.1 HT setup I am still debating what speakers to buy (not totally happy with the B&Ws for music). I am considering trying the Aperion Intimus 6T towers but moneys tight at the moment. My Rotel processor is an old Dolby pro logic component and I had REALLY wanted to get in on the UPA-5 spooky sale before they were gone but payday isn't until this Friday, and that ship has done sailed. I was planning on hooking that up to the Rotel and setting up for (limited) HT use again, putting my upa-1s aside until I bought a proper processor or receiver to use as a processor. Really, it just comes down to "Too much to buy and not enough money to make it happen" ...oh well, I have more important things to take care of these days (my son) Sooooo....the HT/stereo/system will grow a LOT slower than what it did in the past. Thanks again for the advice. I will be reading manuals for weeks now. ;D ;D ;D ;D
