This is probably an amazingly silly question, but I'm I've finally managed to drag my old Fosgate Audionics (Rebranded Hafler VRM home theater gear that most of you have very likely never ever even heard of existing...) speakers out of storage and am considering either the XPA-5 or UPA-5. I have three FA62.0 speakers and two FA61.0 speakers. They're 6 ohm rated, and supposedly according to the info they stay at 6 ohms. fosgateaudionics.com/products/documents/2001_PointZeroSats_MAN.pdfBoth of these amps are obviously rated to 4 ohm stable, but in my neurotic level of research on gear that I do I've occasionally come across reviews of amps where for some reason they just really don't like a 6 ohm load and either sound quality suffers greatly... And just in case I figured it would be prudent to ask if the amps themselves are perfectly happy running at 6 ohms.

Hi Cat (or Ron, Rob...) and Welcome to the Lounge. I'd say the UPA-5 will provide all that is necessary to fill your speakers with all the power they need. And yes, the UPA-5 can safely run your 6 Ohm speakers, and even 4 Ohm ones as well. It is not only rated to do so but also concretely prooven. Cheers, Bob

I agree with Bob. The UPA will provide plenty of power. The XPA will do even better at very loud volumes, but I wouldn't think you would need it personally.

The only reason I'm considering the XPA-5 is to potentially future-proof myself if I should upgrade to more demanding speakers later.

Well, the XPA fills less of an immediate need, but should I upgrade my speakers later the extra $200 might be a good investment upfront. Thus the conundrum.

the upa-5 is currently sold out. looks like XPA5 for you. You're assuming that I HAVE to have it right now. My speakers are still in storage (only here instead of there where they were) for about another week. From what I've seen it looks like Emotiva has a pretty regular holiday sale as well that I could potentially take advantage of, but sale prices don't tend to make or break my purchasing decision.
