After two weeks with two different UMC-1's I elected to send it back. I kept the XPA-5.
What I didn't like: Audio drop outs (might have been weak cable TV signal), slow to lock when switching sources, SQ of FM tuner, Volume slow to increase. No source direct turn on.
What I liked: Menu system was very easy to use. Unit was attractive. Bass management was flexible. Aluminum remote. display was easy to read. When calling Emotiva you get a live person to talk to!!!

This is pretty much the same thing I experienced as well. Along with wacky EmoQ results, poor remote signal, volume bursts, random full screen OSD and pop up OSD, and weird DV performance.
The sound was great, and it's very flexible, but that's about it.

No problems with my UMC, but I did have a ctr ch dropout last night with my Harman Kardon 3600 last night LOL, I have exorcised the demons in my UMC, but now my poor HK! The HK wouldn't handshake with my 3 yr old LG 60in plasma, but my UMC does! I'm on my 3rd HK and their customer service is great, but the unit s#@^'s. By the way, my best friend works for a major cable company and they are telling their techs not to use hdmi and use component hook ups unless customers insist. This is due to the many widespread problems with this technology. And... they don't all (hardly any) own UMC-1s.

Interesting comment above. I just had the same thing suggested to me. My new cable DVR gives me drop outs ONLY when I watch something that was recorded on the hard drive. No drop outs at all when watching live TV, but flip to something recorded and there they are. I called and asked for support and their first suggestion was to switch to component video. I suggested that they should get Scientific Atlanta to update their hard drive controller software and the response on the line was silence. When I'm back in the office Monday I plan to call SA myself... and oh, the DVR playback glitches occurred with the DVR connected directly to the display, it has nothing to do with the UMC-1.

Had comcast come out and check my cable system. They found a bad splitter and replaced my cable box. I gained 2 dB in signal strength. Better picture!!!

Is the superiority of the analog sound of the UMC-1 compensates in a valid proportion over its other imperfections, whatever the cause, HDMI interaction's and compatibilitie's issues? ...And all?

Bob, I will talk about those issues in detail on my thread, but yes, I have problems with the 3007 as well. The UMC is almost dropout free. Once in a while it drops the center channel when a commercial comes on, and it has to switch from DD to Neo 6. I'll try PLII as my default two channel source, and see if that helps. The 3007 has had a couple of audio drops, which is usually fixed by switching listening modes, and then switching back, just like the UMC. But it's having a few video drops as well. Only on FIOS cable though. So far, the 3007 has had just as many problems as the UMC. Just like any other newer pre/pro and receiver out there. So it's nothing out of the ordinary.
