I currently use a Stereolink 1300 usb dac to play lossless music files from my pc.Everything I read on the forums suggest the best solution for XDA-1 set up is toslink out from pc to input XDA-1. My question is:would a usb to spdif converter work to get pure digital signal from my pc to XDA-1.If so can anyone reccomend one.Or does anyone have any idea how usb sound quality on XDA-1 would compare to other usb dacs like stereolink or cambridge dacmagic. I welcome any suggestions

Do you play the music from your computer or use a media server software and stream it to a different player?

I welcome any suggestions Before I went to the Wyred4Sound DAC2 (which is asynch USB) I used the HiFace converter ( www.m2tech.biz/index-3.html) with a Cambridge DACmagic. The HiFace was definately an improvement for me. If you do some searching, I think you can find converters that might be just a little better but I really didn't have any complaits about the HiFace. I can't really say how the XDA would compare to the Cambridge since very few people have heard the XDA at this point.

I use a M-Audio Transit. It connects to my computer USB and then has a TOSLink out to my DACMagic. Using the M-Audio Transit I'm able to get my 96kHz files to my DACMagic without them being downsampled and the DACMagic recognizes and displays them as 96kHz files. The M-Audio Transit is around $80 if I remember correctly.
One of the problems with most USB computer connections is that the files only come out as 44k or 48k but the M-Audio Transit driver gets around that.

The M-Audio would have been my suggestion as well. Good choice, Ben.

One of the problems with most USB computer connections is that the files only come out as 44k or 48k but the M-Audio Transit driver gets around that. I use the Musiland Monitor 02 US (also an asynch device) as a USB to digital converter (using coax out) for the same reason and it works well. Costs a little more, but it's also a DAC and headphone amp. Even into my MMC-1, which converts and reconverts the signal (stereo mode), it sounds much better than the analog out of my computer did. Can't wait to hear the difference the XDA-1 makes.
