Hello all,
I am new to the world of separates and recently found out about emotiva and the lounge. I am looking for some help in determing what equipment I should buy and which configuration is best. I am about ready to purchase new front mains and a new center channel. See below for what I believe the configuration is going to be.
1) A 14'x27' room on a concrete slab with the primary listening position about center with an 8' ceiling.
2) Mythos st fronts - 93db sensitivity and 20-350w recommended ower per manufacturer
3) Mythos ten center - - 93db sensitivity and 20-300w recommended power per manufacturer
4) Side surrounds - def tech bpx - 93db sensitivity and 20-350w recommended power per manufacturer
5) Rear surrounds def tec pro monitor 1000 - 90db sensitivity and 20-200w recommended power per manufacturer
6) JBL 15" 400w subwoofer
My use it probably 70% HT and 30% music, but am figuring I am going to rediscover my cd collection. Note that I do have a large collection of mp3 type music that will be used also. The main question becomes what is the best amplifier selection for my use. Below is what my thoughts on equipment purchases are:
1) Umc-1
2) Erc-1
3) Either xpa-2 and xpa-5 or (2) xpa-1 + (1) xpa-5.
4) Future : xsp1 pre-amp and xda dac - do you think this would be
beneficial?
In regards to amplifiers, is option 3 overkill or would I notice a difference? When using a configuration with a large difference in amplifier power how does this affect HT use? If I set a certain volume with the fronts being the reference will that make the volume for the speakers on the xpa-5 too low? Sorry for the newbie questions. Under what most would consider a average listening volume what kind of current usage would either setup draw? I am trying to figure out if I would need to have separate ac circuits in one configuration or the other. Unfortunately the HT room is all on one 20A circuit. Keeping in mind that the Def tech ST's have a 300w powered subwoofer section.
One other thought, if I went with option 3 I would have to place one amplifier, probably the xpa-5, in a different location and would have to use 10' RCA interconnect cables. Does anyone see a problem with sound quality doing this? The other option would be to stack all three amplifiers on top of each other. Would this be a problem? Thank you for your input. I hope emotiva still has all the items in stock that I decide on since the sale is a great plus. I am hoping to order by mid November at the latest. Thank you for your input.
