I understand the usb input is limited to 16/44 and numerous posts have suggested that the best route for pc connect is spdif.I would have to spend 150.00 for converter and would rather avoid that for now.The hi res music available is so limited,I am not really concerned with anything over 16/44.I can play hi res files with my x-fi elite pro and winamp.I have 500 cd's ripped lossless that I play with a stereolink 1300 usb 20 bit dac to an Onkyo TX NR 905.This set up sounds better than the x-fi even using asio.It also sounds better than a Nad c541 i cd player. Those are the only comparisons I know. Can anyone tell me how they think the xda-1 usb input for sound quality for 16/44 lossless files might be?

BTW, I don't think we know if USB input is limited to 16/44 (or 16/48). There are in essence confirmations from Emotiva of it being and not being limited. Still hoping they give a definitive answer before it ships.
And difficult to compared a non-released product. I'd be surprised if it didn't best the X-Fi easily, but we'll find out soon enough.

I can only tell you that listening to high quality CDs during Emofest thru the ERC-1 to the XDA-1 to XPA-1 Amps to ERT-8.3 speakers the sound was very good. Based on the few hours of exposure I had with the XDA-1 you are going to be impressed with the sound quality.
As far as the USB ports being limited to 16/44, it is not clear that is the case. At Emofest, there was conflicting information on the range of the USB ports is. One of the figures stated it was 24/192 and another was 16/48. A few weeks ago this topic came up on another thread and Lonnie chimed in that he was not 100 percent certain and that he was on his way to China, but would have Eric check into this and let us know. Since that post from Lonnie, I have seen no further information on what the actual USB spec really is.

As of 9:00 am today, I talked with Eric about the USB inputs and he confirmed that the XDA-1 will not be limited. It will handle 24-bit/192 KHz inputs and will not down convert the signal. So he has changed what he told me at Emofest. Hmmmm. I still not convinced. Problem is, that Windows does not support 24/192. All of the DAC and USB to SPDIF converter manufacturers that sell units that support 24/192 USB connections, also provide proprietary drivers for their DAC or converter. Check out the specs , etc of some of them to see what I am saying. Did he say they would be providing a driver to support 24/192? Understand, I am on the list and have ordered one. I heard it at Emofest and thought is sounded great. But, if you want 24/192 you are probably going to have to use the SPIDF inputs. I hope I'm wrong ;D

Gotcthe below reply from emotiva. Hope this helps.
What sample rates will be supported on the USB input? 24 bit 192khz with appropriate 3rd party software both on Mac/Pc
What sample rates will be supported on the Toslink S/PDIF, Coax Digital and the AES/EBU input? 24 bit 192khz.

However he did not mention which third party software to use. That's the important question that we all want an answer for. Dave.

However he did not mention which third party software to use. Vox on the Windows side was mentioned in an email to me. Guessing Amarra or Pure Vinyl on the Mac?

I have both of these. I believe the same company wrote the drivers for both. For those that are interested, I got the best results by using kernel streaming.
