I'm probably gonna flamed for this suggestion, but there is a pair of Insignia speakers at Best Buy that are just too good to be true. My co worker has a pair in his study and I listened to them one day and was floored by the SQ. They were so good I went and bought a pair myself. Best part, $87.00 a pair... I'm not kiddin. The build quality is great, they have excellent bass extension, silk dome tweeter - but are a tad on the bright side. A steal in my opinion. I A/B them next to my $2500.00 Snell Type J's and.......... no they did not sound as good nor play as deep or set the great soundstage that the J's do, but at $87.00, they are a tremendous value. I don't know who builds them for Insignia but a job well done Check them out for yourself - read the reviews....... www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia%26%23153%3B+-+6-1/2%22+Bass-Reflex+Bookshelf+Speakers+(Pair)/7705307.p?id=1138085354138&skuId=7705307« Last Edit: Today at 4:50pm by Porscheguy »

Is it $97 for the pair or each? So many times BB lists them as 1 in the price.

These kinda of great sounding rare inexpensive type of speaker reminds me of the Radio Shack's monitor with the ribbon tweeter on top. Those had some following for their crazy imaging and excellent value..I think they sold for 150 or something crazy like that. I believe they were call Realistic?

Djoel I've actually got a pair of those...the "optimus Pro LX5" The conventional 5 inch woofer is in a ported die cast metal case with gold plated 5 way binding posts and a cloth grill. The interesting part is the tweeter...mounted with 360 degree dispersion inside a metal grill on top of the woofer enclosure. They called the tweeter a "Linaeum" tweeter...and is a type of ribbon. It's a sort of ribbon wrapped around a couple spaced posts that has 360 degree dispersion. It sounds quite nice and was dirt cheap. I even bought my pair when they were on a half price sale.

Hey, I also got those, but mine are the GENEXXA version, with two small round ports on front, which I filled with thick foam to have a better overall sound from them. A true dipole/omnipole speaker, that also excels at Surrounds duty. * Price ain't important, only sound is! Here's that picture model version of mine: ** Notice also the different dust cap of the mid/woof driver. And the surround of that driver is made of foam, and not rubber! But who cares anyway? Because when that foam surround is gone, I'll put some new drivers in them! Or I'll simply make them new rubber surrounds myself! Hey, for $60 a piece and not bad sound at all, what's to really complaint about? Just think about it for a sec: High Tech Linaeum tweeter, die cast enclosure, 5-way brass gold plated binding posts, and a mid/woof driver for free!
