I think there is a little mistake on the number of midrange drivers in the 8.3. It states 25

I haven't tried emotiva speakers yet, even though I'm a loudspeaker and amplifier collector of many high end manufacturers but since emotiva doesn't use RIBBONS and HORNS and no planars and electrostats but basic dynamic drivers. I have no need for it. I am not a fan of dome tweeters unless it's utilized for unconventional designs like the OHM's and similar technologies like using a 360 degree pattern using WAVE GUIDES like the mirage or the ultra expensive german speaker company DUEVEL, outside my pocketbook. Ribbons like the ESS HEIL or DR. OSKAR HEIL, magnepan, newform, SLS ribbon and other ribbon designers is more accurate, especially electrostats in higher frequencies and overall soundstaging along with horn designs which are well known for voice reproduction. There are some more advance dome designs utilizing it on a LINE SOURCE configuration (multiple drivers high and mid drivers in a line) that are effective like MCintosh xrt speaker lines for example, but in general DOMES are outdated and less effective as a high frequency transducer in my opinion. Like any other component, it's individual tastes. Some engineers prefer using domes in their designs over ribbons and vice versa. Those who know about electrostats, is because of speed and transparency in how it reacts to current. This is one area I have no interest in the emotiva line except for possibly the subwoofer designs which gets a lot of high reviews.

I think EMOTIVA should consider UPGRADING their speaker lines with the use of RIBBON, electrostat or horn drivers. These transducers are FAR FAR SUPERIOR then the typical dome tweeters many companies seem to stick with. They're not even in the same LEAGUE! I have owned just about every form of transducers made and can tell you the difference in performance. Minus the MBL, GERMAN PHYSIKS type drivers, for the most part I have used many transducers. Dome tweeters are what the PIEZO tweeters used to be. I would rather use a BULLET tweeter or a round ribbon tweeter over any DOME. At least on the higher models, it would only benefit the customer if, some of the higher models are equipped with the transducers mentioned! PROUD OWNER OF ACOUSTATS, ESS HEILS, JANSZENS, MAGNEPANS, EMINENT TECH, OHM ACOUSTICS, KLIPSCH, SRS, SUNFIRE, LINAEUM, ADVENT, BIC, SRSLABS designs!

gerbil: What can you tell me about OHMS newer speakers? I haven't upgraded my F's, because the design was changed and the super-tweater was added. I am worried that it won't be as effective as their original design. As such, when my surround goes, I am contemplating moving to Maggies. Yes, I am aware of the upgrade program, but even after 15 years I still can't bring myself to upgrade (yet). On a 2nd note (and speaking of surrounds, but not in the same context): have you experimented with rear speakers/surround speakers? The Boss has made an edict. Highest preference is to in-wall followed by on-wall. I was looking at MMC2, but it would require me running trigger lines. No powered subs as part of the speaker (that's why I don't like Emotiva's designs), though I thought the Stealth's used mini Ribbons... Thanks in Advance

I'm still wondering why this is still stickied. All the links to speakers no longer produced are long since dead.
