I need some help or ideas for making or buying acoustic panels. Could I just go to Lowes and get everything I need? My room is rectangle with wood floors. I have hung curtains and put in an area rug. But I can still hear echos especially when running the MCACC from my pio elite. I was thiking I need a few behind me or one long one behind the couch about 18" by 6' long. Then on another wall its bare I think three of then about 2' by 4' would work then another 2' by 4' for the walls behind the speakers would be enough. Can someone please guide me in the right direction. I have searched on the forums but everyone does them differently and make some to absorb bass. Im mostly concerned about the echo and treble. Also to note my walls are old hard plaster walls, probably another reason I get alot of echo besides the wood floors.

Thanks for the link. I like the microsuede. But for the 6 panels I need would cost me about 350 plus shipping. Is there any cheaper way to make them myself? I doubt I could make them look as good but i would like to try. I just need to know what materials to buy. Thanks for any info evryone.

I too like ATS. I used DIY to cover my whole front wall, and their prepped solutions for side walls and ceilings. looks great and definitely a good company to work with.

You might be able to find the Owens Corning much cheaper if you call around to a local HVAC contractor. It will probably take some time, but might be worth it to save on shipping charges. Lowe's said they could special order the OC, but never got back to me. For the cover material, check out a local fabric/sewing shop. You want something that is slightly stretchable and that you can breathe through. I built four 2' x 4' panels last March and spent a total of about $130 and still have two fiberglass bats left over.

I just priced buying the fiberglass, the fabric and pre made panels and it still came to about 280. I would still like to get it sheaper somehow. I figure maybe Ill just go to lowes and get some 8' peices of wood and cut to size so I have enough to make six 2' by 4' by 2" deep. Then get some material from a fabric store. I like the microsuede look. then if I have too get the fiberglass from the site you are all talking about. Not sure what wood to buy nothing fancy since it will be covered.

I also can confirm ATS's offerings are great and work very well. I have 8 of the 24x48 panels 2" thick and it made my system jump to another level of awesomeness!!

GIK panels here. VERY nicely made....and VERY effective. To answer your initial question, NO, you can't just go to Lowe's. edit: well......I guess you COULD go to Lowe's

Also using some GIK (bass trapps) panels. The SMS-1 confirms they helped with a couple of nasty nulls I had.

I used some 2 inch fiberglass board that I got from a hvac place 10 feet x 4 feet 55$ and 2 x 2s than wrapped them with something the wife picked out . the board comes with a black net on one side that can peel off so if you want to make a bass trap you could also . I found that this worked great . the board is similar to the owens 703 but the fiber is more compact ..I dont have the luxury of having a separate listening room so I use the living room that is a open floor plan with kitchen and dining behind me and wall to wall tile so you can imagine how bad this room was . Ive tried several different insulation and this sounds the best in my room

I too was looking to cut some costs by making them myself. I ended up buying from atsacoustics.com camel color microsuede. The way the frame is made, the front edges are sort of mitered so it's really nice. I am pretty handy but it would have taken me a long time to make all the panels I need if I were to make them similar to ATS. They are very well made, looks very good and I'm very happy the way the room turned out. They sell DIY materials also and I would consider buying their frames, Roxul and microsuede cloth if you still want to do some of the work and save a little.

I ended up making six 2' by 4' panels getting stuff from ats and lowes. I think I may have spent about 135 to 150 for all six. I took one pic and its in my link in my sig. It also shows my new swan diva r3 surrounds. ATS is one of the fastest shippers I have ever seen. it was less than 48 hours that I got the material.

Very nice! Burlap for fabric I presume?
I made some speaker cables myself, probably used the same cable Canare 4s11 starquad? Looks nice, but I'm not so sure it improved anything sonically.

I have three of the ATS panels. Totaled about $200. Best investment I've made other than Emotiva. One of the panels is 2'x4' 2" thick, one 2'x4' 4" thick without wooden back (for corner use) and one 2'x4' 4" thick with wooden back. I shopped around and as far as I know was the cheapest route other than DIY.

Theresa, You are not the average female and I am glad to see your posts around the forum. Great little hobby we have here! Thank you. Yesterday on another forum, not a/v related, I was accused by someone as always being negative because I challenged her proselytizing for fundie xtianity. It really made me feel down. I love these forums because I can talk about something I've been in love with ever since I helped my dad put together Dynaco gear at age 9. I wish more women were involved with this but I think almost all are socialized to think its just a man's interest which is too bad because many do appreciate good sound. I spent years unable to afford anything as good as Emotiva using only low end equipment. Up until two months ago all I had set up for sound for the last six years was my headphones and Logitech $120 computer speakers. I couldn't get myself to set up my system as I was just too depressed.
