I found the following DACs in the Music Direct Catalog (They have a huge selection):
SIMAUDIO MOON - 100D SILVER DAC
CARY - XCITER DAC
MUSICAL FIDELITY - M1DAC DIGITAL CONVERTER
MUSIC HALL - DAC25.3 DIGITAL TO ANALOG CONVERTER
Other than the Cary, the others are about $600 in price. Has anyone had any experience with these? I am in the market for a DAC. I am considering the XDA-1 but if the ones listed above will provide better performance, then I do not mind spending a bit more. My intention is to marry the DAC up with the new Oppo BDP-93.

Considering Emo products perform as well as others costing 3 times the price I find it unlikely they will outperform the XDA. I had a ps audio Digital link 3 - $800.00 street price that was no better than the built in dac's in my umc-1. I "gave it away" because I trust my expectations of the XDA-1, which I just ordered! There is a nice selection of D/A converters out there now, have fun choosing...

Since the Oppo BDP-93 is pretty new, I'm not familiar with it. However, if its comparable to the Oppo BDP-83SE, I probably wouldn't bother with an external DAC. If the 93 is comparable to the standard 83, than yes I would get a DAC. Here's a comparison of the 83SE with the Benchmark DAC1, which is very highly regarded.

I have the Music Hall 25.2 and am expecting shipment of the XDA-1. Hopefully I can do some listening shortly after it arrives and post my impressions.

To add to this list, and one that I am always curious about, would be the Cambridge DAC Magic. I think an A/B of these two DACs would be interesting. |
