O.K., I need RCA cables for connecting between my preamp and XPA-3 and UPA-7. I would like the following: - single cables (not "stereo" cables, wherein two cables are molded together)
- gold-plated connectors
- 6 feet in length
Did some searching, and the Emotiva X-Series look very nice. These are good for audio interconnects between a preamp and amp, I assume? I have also noticed that many RCA cables are coax. The Emotiva X-Series, though, appear to be two conductors in a shield. Is the shield connected to ground on one end? Or is it floating?

Yes, the X-series would work great between your amp and pre. I don't know about the floating shield question, but they also have coax versions at the same price if thats what you prefer.

The X Series are nice cables. The standard RCA are two conductor pairs. If you want a solid coax type then you can use the ones that are labeled as digital coax. They will work just fine. I have both and use both, really couldn't tell a difference. From what I remember, the cables are grounded on each end, but it has been quite some time since I first asked and obtained that info.

Floating Ground means that it is only connected on one end.

I went ahead and ordered seven of the X-Series from Emotiva.

Floating Ground means that it is only connected on one end. Hmm. I would think "floating ground" means the shield is not connected to anything. I have seen "twisted pair in a shield" cables where the shield was connected to ground at one end only. This is done to prevent ground loops.

ohioan, You'll probably be surprised at the high quality of these cables. I just re-wired my 3 Emotiva amps to my AVR with the X-Series cables & also bought 2 of the component X-Series - WOW! At the current sale price, they're a steal.
