Okay guys I know I am thinking way too hard about this, but I got my XDA-1 and right now I am trying to connect it to a Sony receiver. I have my iMac connected via optical to OPT1 on the XDA. The CD player is connected via optical to OPT2. Now the RCA outs on the XDA go where in the receiver? I was thinking the Multi-Channel inputs (L/R). That means I don't select the source on the receiver anymore, only on the XDA. Is this the right/best way to connect it all? Thanks

Hi regulator, the best way to connect the XDA to a receiver is to use the multichannel "analog in" to avoid any processing by the receiver.
This is how i connect my XDA with my LMC-1. The sound is just awsome.

You can select any input other than phono input in your receiver. It doesn't matter what the input says as long as you select that input when playing your iMAC or CD player. You can connect your XDA analog outputs(Right and Left) to CD input or aux input in your receiver.when playing anything that is connected to your XDA choose that input in your receiver. And turn the volume from your receiver up so you get the sound from your speakers. You don't have to use multi channel inputs because your CD playing is only two channel.Hope this helps. You cannot choose multi channel inputs in your receiver because your XDA gives you only R&L outputs for analog.I don't think you should use any digital out from your XDa(if it has any0because then your receivers DACs will be processing your digital signal from it's own DACs inside. Ranjith

Ranjith You can use the Multi-channel FL and FR inputs on the AVR with the Stereo out RCAs from the XDA-1. I'm doing this now with my Oppo BDP-93 since they don't have a dedicated analog stereo output and it works well. I listen to my CDs and Streamed .flac/ .mp3 this way. I also use the HDMI output on the Oppo for watching Blu-Rays and listening to SADC/ DVD-A. Best of both worlds....until I get an XDA-1.

Thanks fellas for the advice. I thought I had it all figured out until it actually arrived, then I realized I would be selecting the sources on the XDA and not the receiver anymore. I did connect the RCA outs on the XDA into the Multi-Channel L/R inputs on the receiver and it works. Now I am selecting the Multi Ch in button on the receiver, while selecting the source (CD or computer) on the XDA. Thanks again

moodyman,
I read my owners manual for my Pioneer elite rec and it clearly states that pure direct avoids any processing by the Rec DACs. So, you don't need to go Multi Channel. Clearly, there are several ways to get you where you need to go. As for me, I will go XDA-1 to CD and use pure direct mode.

Yes, if you have a pure direct input you can plug the XDA to the pure direct input.
Just be sure that it's really a non-processing and pure by-pass.

[/quote] I do have a 'direct' option and I assume I can use that with any analog input. Would this be preferred over the L/R multi-channel inputs? Or is it basically the same?
