I got my XDA-1 today and a small note said that I have to remove the battery insulator from the remote before use. I'm confused! What are they trying to tell me? I took off the bottom plate of the remote and their was like a plastic shim under the + post and I removed it but nothing works.

I had that too, a little piece of paper like object to insulate the batteries. If nothing works, I'd put in another pair of batteries and see if that works, the remote should function fine.

You may also want to double check that the batteries are inserted in the correct direction for proper polarity.
