My main theater system has a touchscreen HTPC with the Xonar DX sound card. This is going to a UMC-1 via optical. I am currently outputting 24/192 and have been pretty happy with the SQ in this system but I am wondering if you think I would get an improvement with the XDA-1.
I am also considering upgrading to the Xonar STX card instead. I am already running this in my 2 channel rig, how do you think the XDA-1 would compare to the STX?
Thanks

The benefit I see for you is that you have multiple sources that could use the DAC and it capabilities. You don't get that flexibility with a sound card.

That's a good benefit, I just wonder if there would be any SQ improvement from the PC, which gets the bulk of music in this system.

I personally haven't heard that particular card, but I did notice an improvement from my Prodidgy HD2 (which used a lot of the same parts as the Asus awhile back) when I switched to an outboard DAC. I don't want to generalize and say that will always be the case though. It would certainly be worth a try.

Thanks, I just put myself on the list I think it will be well worth it when combined with the rest of my sources.
