So, after a long time waiting on the sidelines - I finally ordered a UMC-1. And, Big Dan and Lonnie will be glad to hear me report that from my POV, "it just works". And, I really like it, too!
The sound is very nice. And - I have not done any special audio setup yet - just set up the inputs, changed fronts from "full" to a 40 hz x-over, and started listening. My first listen was the Crossroads 2010 BluRay...very nice detail and very nice imaging. A nice improvement over my Denon 3806.
The video image looks to be better than what I had w/my Denon 3806 - but maybe I am imagining that. But either way - I won't complain! Looks good!
I am already liking the OSD and how it allows me to modify settings while I am still listening/watching something. I never liked how my Denon 3806's menu completely "took over" and shut off all other audio/video when doing setup changes. The OSD is a really great feature in the UMC-1.
FYI, I am running HDMI from my DirecTV, my Denon 2930 DVD player, and my Panny BluRay, as well as a 10 meter HDMI to my Panny projector. All is working fine so far. Lock times appear similar to what I had with my Denon 3806 AVR.
I have the newest firmware (the 7.2.00.05) with the latest front panel code also. I can confirm that this combo is working nicely with the metal remote and that my USP-1's remote is not interfering with the UMC-1 and neither is the UMC-1's remote interfering w/the USP-1.
The only hiccup so far was that as I tried to set up the input for the Wii, I kept getting "no video" after I thought I had set it up correctly. But, it appears that in trying to set it up - I scrolled down to the "Component 1" choice but didn't actually select it before I exited the menu. After a couple unsuccessful tries, I got it right. User error...
So overall...so far - a big "Thanks" to Lonnie and the whole Emotiva team! I'll give this a more thorough run and try EMO-Q in coming days, but so far - count me in the "happy customer" camp!

The vast majority of people who have the UMC-1 are very pleased. Nice to see you among them :-)

Mark Me too.. just wanted to add an update, mine for the most part is working fine. Once in a great while it won't lock onto the audio signal or it doesn't shut off. But that is rare and I haven't loaded the latest firmware yet. I'm still waiting for Emo to officially post it. Where is it, anyway???

Me Too! I just got my second Ultra 12 on Saturday and re-ran EMO-Q this afternoon and saved to the Manual EQ-2 so I can go A-B. I too have not upgraded to the -05 version or the panel code and will wait till Emo is ready to post it. I like the Dolby V for Satellite music on low volume that my wife listens to.
I have zero functional issues with the unit and am very happy with the purchase. I also like have matching dual subs. I had to run some errands today before I could do listening tests after running EMO-Q. I should be able to do more with that tomorrow.
Good stuff folks!

Love my UMC-1 waiting on the next update as well. I think that it has some cool features but the sound of the unit just keeps me coming back for more. The thing I notice most about my Emotiva setup so far is just how quiet the noise floor is. The details in the music are so much better than any receiver I have ever owned.
Now I wonder just how much better some UPA-1s or some XPA-1 s would sound in comparison to my UPA-5 sounds.

Mark, I am very happy to see that you took the "plunge". I knew that once you pulled the trigger you would be very happy with the UMC-1. Congrats on your purchase. Don't be afraid to experiment. The more you tweak settings the more comfortable you will become with its operation; and, the more you will become addicted to it. With the gear you have, the UMC-1 should prove to be very synergistic. Enjoy!

You are sure right, Ronnie! It's ease of use is great and is quite intuitive. But, to gain confidence in what I was doing I took the time to read the manual tonight at my daughter's soccer practice, so I came home and experimented more. I found the manual well-written and helpful.
On Day 2 of using it, I really like the ease of setup, the customizability (and by-input preferences!), the ease of "on the fly" changes, the ease of being able to quickly see what signal it is taking in vs. putting out, and...of course - the sound and vision! And, I have not had any operability issues.
I likely won't get to try Emo-Q until this weekend, but that's my next major step. Even if I don't like its results, I won't be dissappointed since I never liked my Denon's Audysey and I look forward to using Emo-Q as a base and tweaking from there.
Well, gotta go...BB King is calling...

What I like is taking the EMO results, checking the cross-over, give it a listen then go through the equalization assigned to each speaker and adjust as needed. I have B&W Speakers and EMO-Q will go -5 to -7db on the last three to four high end frequencies and I nudge them closer to flat a bit and I love that flexibility which I have never had in any system that I have owned. I have never had an Audessey system though.

jeez this thing is good...I am loving it!
I just listened to a lot of different stuff on DVD and realized I had user error on one aspect...unrelated to the UMC-1! I have a Denon 2930 DVD player, and I had it connected via Denon Link to my Denon 3806. Now, I have the Denon 2930 connected via HDMI to the UMC-1...guess what...with the Denon link installed, the 2930 only outputs 2-channel over HDMI. So, I turned off the Denon link and now the 2930 is glorious through the UMC-1 in its audio from the 2930! It was already great via the BluRay which didn't have this setup issue.
And, I am now taking note of how good the video from DirecTV is looking...MAJOR improvement. I am watching Ultraviolet via DirecTV...WOW video quality over what I had.
Next on order...to try EmoQ. As noted...won't be too disapppointed if it does not work well...didn't like Audyesy. And Reg...my Denon's did have manual adjustment but no way (at least no way I ever figured out) to use Audyesy as a starting point and tweak. I had to start from scratch w/the manual adjustment. Maybe it was there but I could not figure out how. So - no matter what, EMO-Q will be an improvement in that respect!
Now, back to loving my UMC-1...

dittos klimenj,
my experience with this has been wonderful. did set-up manually just as i have done many times with my 10 year old denon. i never liked what my friends denon did with the audessey set-up so i just ran emo-q once to see the initial results and then went back and tuned the system by ear.
for music it is running direct and it is the best sound i have ever had.

So, I just got EmoQ to run...had a stumble (see processor thread) but overcame it. And much to my surprise...I like what EmoQ did! I never liked Audysey....it always seemed to totally deaden my system. Emo-Q took a little off the top of my fronts, tamed the bass a bit, and very much nailed distances and x-overs.
Net - overall, another plus!

Another thing I am discovering that I really like about the UMC-1...I love the flexible setup and multiple assignable inputs. I set one up for my Satellite and 2 each for my DVD player and my BluRay player. Why 2 each? One is set up so the preferred audio decoding defaulting to the music formats (Neo 6 music, for example) and one is set up cinema formats (Neo 6 cinema, for ex.).
That's very nice - when I want to watch a concert DVD, I select DVD Music, and when I want to watch a movie I select DVD movie. And, the right default audio choices are made.
Very nice!
And, it is "playing nice in the sandbox" with my new Harmony 700 remote. The codes for the UMC-1 and USP-1 were there. Cool! And, I have set up activities on my 700 that allow everything to turn on/off the way I want. My wife was concerned it would be complicated, but when I showed it to her this AM...she said, "gee, that's simple!" (Whew...passed!)

The best tweak I've found is to activate the triggers. Still waiting for one trigger cable accidentally not sent back after I included with my UMC-1 when I sent it back to have it fixed. Two amps though automatically turn on and off now that I figured out where the settings were. I really hated having to walk over to them and turn them on individually.

I need to hook up the triggers to my amps, also. Now that I have the UMC-1 otherwise fully set up, I need to hook up trigger lines.

U Guys R killing me! As I look at the progress bar on the Fedex in transit level.....I'm still awaiting the UMC-1...delivery on Friday! That would be awesome, so I could set it up with my UPA-7 I just recently purchased. The Man Cave has new rug and new paint and it's just begging for some audio. Do I have to order the trigger cable separately or does it come with the UMC-1? If I add a XPA-2 to the setup do I need another cable and one of those trigger boxes? Giddy as a kid on Christmas!
Cheers--RJ

UPDATE: after doing the 7.04.00.00 FW update, I didn't get much of a chance to critically listen to the sound until now. (I was busy and had a bad cold that hindered my hearing).
So, last night I popped in Jeck Beck @ Ronnie Scott's. WOW!!! I love that disk and it sounded EVEN BETTER than ever...much more clarity in the subtle little guitar work Jeff does, much more "punch" on the bass drum...it was like I was sitting in front of the bass drum!. Very good...very noticable vs. my past listening to that same disk with the former "05" FW or esp. w/my former Denon 3806 (with which I was using the same amp, speakers, and source).
Do note...this is not the BluRay version of the disk...just the regular DVD, played as DTS from the source and presented as DTS by UMC-1.
Overall, very, very happy!

Glad you are happy. Good to hear someone happy with the UMC-1. Most that are happy, don't feel a need to post anything. They just enjoy the UMC-1.
