While I have not looked into the matter technically, I've noticed that I'm having 'no audio' issues with my XDA-1 used in conjuction with a Denon DVD 3800 BDCI Blu ray player via digital coax connection.
I'm a 2-channel guy to include movies. I've noticed that when watching blu ray movies I still get picture but no sound. Apparently, the XDA-1 is unable to process digital audio coming from the aforementioned blu ray player. If I pop out the blu ray disk and insert a music C/D, it works fine.
Now, I haven't tried all my blu ray or standard DVDs so anybody know why which will save me some time in research? Thanks!

The XDA-1 can only process 2 channel PCM data.
Many Blu-ray players can only output their native Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks through their HDMI outputs and cannot output them through the coaxial or optical S/PDIF digital audio outputs.
The only methods to get a 2 channel PCM signal into the XDA-1 would be:
1. If the Blu-ray disc also has a 2 channel PCM soundtrack, and that soundtrack is selected in the Blu-ray disc's main menu
2. If the Blu-ray disc also has a regular Dolby Digital or DTS multi-channel soundtrack and that is selected in the Blu-ray disc's main menu AND 2 channel output is selected from the Blu-ray player's Audio Setup menu.

Hi, sorry, but I disagree: Take a look into the manual (p. 12) and you can see: Setting the digiout to LPCM, downmixes all formats to a 2ch LPCM signal, with which the XDA-1 can "work". If you use the default setting (bitstream) the XDA-1 mutes...

I agree with srb, you cannot send a bitsream to the XDA-1. I use a Oppo BDP-83 and if i choose bistream, no sound. PCM works perfectly.

I looked at the manual and it does appear that the Denon can output an LPCM 2 channel mix from the S/PDIF coaxial or optical outputs with the proper audio menu setting.
