Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has connected a computer running ubuntu to the XDA-1. I am curious about the hardware support, the bit rates supported through USB, and overall impressions.
I have an ubuntu machine that serves as my media server and would like the ability to pass it to an external DAC. Search doesn't seem to be yielding much in the way of results on this subject, so apologies if this has been covered somewhere else.
Thanks so much.

Has nobody actually used the XDA-1 with a linux machine? I am surprised.

I have used Ubuntu in the past, it takes more work to configure. However, with a little work, you should have no problem getting a bit-transparent output with ALSA. With bit-transparent output, sound quality should be as good or better than the default Windows output. IIRC the Linux USB audio drivers are a little ahead of the Windows versions.
Is there a specific question that you had for the combo?

Thanks for the response; I am actually an avid Ubuntu user (it is my primary home machine) and I am looking to use that as a home media server. It will be going to a simple 2 channel stereo. The XDA would be used to bring the audio data from the server to the amplifiers.
I just was wondering if someone has successfully paired the XDA-1 with a linux or ubuntu machine.
Thanks for your help.

I have the XDA-1 working with VortexBox ( vortexbox.org/) which is based on Fedora 14. It was no problem at all. Plugged the XDA-1 in to the USB and it recognized it immediately. All I had to do was configure VortexBox to send the data out the USB. I am also trying to get it working with Voyage-MPD ( linux.voyage.hk/voyage-mpd which is a special version of Voyage Linux for people who want to set up a single purpose music server capable of bit perfect output using MPD. Voyage sees the XDA=1 on the USB, but right now I am having problems with MPD seeing my music files on my NAS. Unfortunately I am new to Linux and I am a bit over my head with Voyage-MPD. Eventually I will get it ;D

I have a laptop that is dual booted with Ubuntu 10.04. Just got my XDA-1 and I can tell you that it does work. I had to go into system - sound and change the output from my laptop speakers. With Rythmbox I could get sound through the XDA-1.
Good Luck.
