Got my volume fix XDA-1 back from Emotiva, sent it to Emotiva FedEx on 12-22-10, so service time was quick. Process for repairing unit: Updated the unit with latest firmware, replaced a capacitor. I have not set it up yet, but when I do hope I can get pass level 10 & fill comfortable to my ears.ERC-1 & Duet through XDA-1 through xlr on my XPA-3.

I think I made a mistake with the volume fix & the reason why I say this, I don't hear any music until I hit volume level 24, I don't have the greatest speakers in the world, but they are not bad either( Jamo E770 90db) & I think the capacitor change took away that magic when I first got the XDA-1, maybe I still need to break it in for a little while. I do not fault Emotiva, it was my decision to get the fix.

I think, depending on the cd, 24 would be about right. When I take my Onkyo 876 AVR to zero on the volume (-80) and bring it up, I don't hear anything of consequence until low -50's. My Onkyo also advances volume in .5 increments, and I think it goes to +20.
Just give it some time and listen to familiar tracks to re-acquaint yourself with the XDA. Mines coming back in under a week, I'll keep you posted.

Thank you sharkman for your advice & i will give it sometime, also I will try the XDA-1 through my Pioneer VSX9040TXH CD input to XPA3 just to compare what hook up would be best.

24/80 as a starting point seems reasonable. My current Linn preamp goes to 50 and my listening range is about 12 for quiet night listening to low 30s for pretty decent daytime listening.

The output is still just a strong as it was, it is just set to adjust the volume differently. In regards to the cap, it is just a timing cap for hte mute circuit and has nothing to do with the audio itself. So crank it on up and have fun.

When will there be a non return to base option...I have no issues opening up my gear and doing board level stuff...but being in Singapore the return and back again will be more than its worth....

Hi Lonnie, Did you guys measure frequency response before shipping back the DAC's?

Just got back my XDA this afternoon and auditioned it with the new volume adjustment. I had been using my old Denon 3803 for pre-amp duties, while waiting for the return of my XDA. I had previously compared my 3803 as pre-amp(with no XDA) and the XDA as pre-amp straight to amp, and found the XDA a solid improvement across the frequency range, with a more open transparent sound with more precise bass. Well the XDA now sounds as good as before, besting my Denon and putting out a whole 'nother level of SQ. The volume is fine and you can color me happy!
I don't think the frequency response was any kind of a concern, but at any rate it sounds neutral to my ears. This thing is the real deal.
Also, I've purchased 3 items from Emotiva over 2 years or so, and each time had them ship to a US border town, and I would go across to pick up. This time they shipped to my Canadian home without me asking, and no doubt the cost to them was significantly higher. I really appreciate that over and above service.
