Seeing that certain areas get free shipping I thought it must cost Emotiva some money to ship these units. Will it not work if for instance you pay on ave $25 per shipment to maybe give a discount on shipping to international customers of the same value?

Does nobody from Emotiva read the international zone? Yes, they have a team of staffers at their computers every day hitting F5 on all the forum threads so that they can jump on and make comments. Now, understand that this did come at a heavy price as they had to disconnect their phone lines and disable their email server to be able to pay for that service. The only thing I can think of is that with the snow and ice we've recently received here in the hills and (small) mountains of Tennessee that a portion of their "forum watchers" haven't made it in today, which would account for them not being able to watch all the threads today. As you know, driving on ice while going up and down hills is quite the adventure. If you haven't tried it I do recommend you put it on your bucket list.

I originally posted on 12 Jan. And yes I could've emailed them and have a "private" discussion for however long I wanted to. But seeing that I did pose the question via mail in Oct and the feedback was no discount for intl customers, I thought it would be better to make it a public discussion. Never read a book by its cover

This is a funny thread, I have to keep my sarcasm bundled inside.
No, I cant.
Maybe you could start a thread for Internatinal Shipping. Setup a Paypal account and we could all donate to cover international shipping instead
;D

When I order my emotiva gear I'm always impressed at how quick it arrives, usually within a week and all the way to OZ.
Perhaps Emo could provide a slower and cheaper option for us far far away. Though I probably wouldn't use it 'cause I'm impatient and check the tracking every hour until it arrives ;D

I asked them exactly this question by email ages ago and they flat out said no to it.
Amazon ship electronics to Australia for a $9.99 flat fee plus $1.49 per pound (with DHL). A UMC-1 would cost $70 instead of $125. Sure Amazon would get phenomenal rates due to bulk, but that much?
I just got an Oppo BDP-93 bluray player from Amazon and it cost US$36.81 to ship in 4 days!

Well one thing to consider is that Amazon would be a huge account for anyone and because they are so big, they have the upper hand when it comes to negotiations. All the freight companies would be vying for their business and would be willing to undercut one another just to have that account. Amazon also has to be cost conscious because of the competition, so they need to constantly watch what they offer to ensure it is competitive. Emo doesn't have the same power to command deals like Amazon, and while they do face stiff competition, it is not anything as severe as what Amazon deals with.

Your first point is valid (and I mentioned it), but the second is moot since Emotiva say they don't add anything to the shipping.
Maybe Emotiva should sell through Amazon like Oppo to give customers overseas a break?

I doubt the international volumes would anywhere near approach amazon volumes.
That said one thing I do with they would go back to is the sofer plastic like foams in the packing around amps as my upa-1 came in polystyrene foam casts that are not IMHO as good as the original versions they used for my other amps like upa-2/7 and other older shipments...like my erm-1's and erd's

Actually I was quite amazed at how CHEAP the shipping was for all of my gear considering its weight and size. It also arrived in good condition which is another consideration. A slower cheaper shipping option would be something I would use depending upon the savings.
I have been getting quotes to ship an Epik Sub to Australia, and they have been horrendously expensive starting at around $1k. I only want to spend $250 which is around the cost of the ERT-8.3 and ERM-6.3 (big and heavy).

USPS no go no tracking outside the US mainland
UPS good on delivery though slack on paying worker decent wage damaged goods can happen.. cost can top DHL US to AUS tends to a bit more expensive though on par with fedex fedex is the middle of the bunch when it comes to cost per weight for freight.
fedex if arrival on a weekday has a 24 hour customs, dhl can be a 2-4 day waiting period, going through USPS, AAE or AUSPOST is standard and can be a bit of a *bleep* to stuff delivered..
Note: all courier service in Australia will not deliver if front door is shut, you or someone you know will need to be home to accept the delivery otherwise you can up to a 5 day delivery window.. or it is a trip to the depot for you..
sadly for most things i would try to avoid discount carrier for the simple it can take up to 6 month's to get your goods, fedex and to the lesser extent dhl do have a good delivery turn around..
sadly no matter which courier service you use in SOUTH AFRICA I would say it's going to cost you an arm and a leg to get it shipped there...

Wow an oldie re-opened. I've used Emotiva to send me goods and I've used alternatives via DHL, TNT and Fedex as well. TNT was tad cheaper than DHL & Fedex, but I have to say Emotiva rates are very competitive, all within +/- $10 of each other. Slow boat is almost just as expensive, higher risk of damage/going astray and who the heck wants to wait weeks for their new shiny Emo gear LOL at Amazon rates versus Emotiva. 1 day of shipping at Amazon to Overseas will probably exceed Emotivas entire lifetime (though we'll like to change that) so of course they have cheaper rates. USPS wouldn't post many Emotiva items due to size. You could get some interconnects maybe

Wow $350 to ship the xpa 5, when I got mine on Jan 1 2013 shipping was $287 to Aus .. A significant rise indeed, would have to rethink another purchase at those rates, plus the taxes incurred ..
Mmmmmm damn this affliction , he he he
