Do I need XSP-1 when I only have digital sources? Will the XDA-1 do the job as well as the XSP-1 connected straight to a XPA-2 and used as a preamp?

If you only intend on using digital sources then yes you only need the XDA-1.. That is how I'm running to my XPA-1's... Some have mentioned volume control issues though... I have no issues with mine.

Shorter pathway is preferable. At best, the XSP-1 will not degrade the signal. The XSP-1 will have other benefits, but I assume you know that?

Yeah I know about the bass-management, but im planning to use XDA-1/XPA-2 with B&W 683 (3x6,5") so i dont think I ever gonna need a sub. If I do i have read its possible to use the unused outputs to a sub with adjustable x-over..

I may be wrong but I think the XSP-1 would be used if you want to integrate the amp that is connected to the XDA-1 into an existing home theater. That and the already mentioned bass management.

I am a B&W fanboy, but... one of those 6,5 is a FST midrange and a proper bass driver is slightly larger, say... 12 inch? www.troelsgravesen.dk/DTQWT-12.htm ;D Just pulling your leg! These will cost the same as the B&W's you named if you build them yourself, just so you'd know there's more bass possible even without SW. Loud too: 95 dB sensitivity...

Thats correct, the HT-input is a smart feature. But you can do the "same" with XDA-1. If I use XLR to the XPA-2, then I can use the RCA-inputs on the XPA for preout on a reciever. I just have to switch the input on the back of the XPA But I dont have a home theater and most certainly not gonna buy one in the nearest future..

You can use XLR to the XPA-2 and at the same time use RCA to subwoofer amp. Or use a REL SW with connections at speaker output level...

Eirik84, I use the RCA outputs to go to a sub which has a crossover and gain which gives me the bass management I need, should you ever want to go that route. Then the XDA is direct to my XPA2 via XLR cables.
