Are there any advantages in useing a Internal USB Expansion Card on a mother board with plenty USB ports on it already? Connecting it to the XDA-1

Connecting it to the XDA-1 I don't know about driving an XDA-1 with USB but the only reason for using a USB add-on card I can think of is if your motherboard is older and only supports USB1. USB2 is much faster, and there are a few devices out now that can use USB3 which is faster yet.

I'm not sure if speed is the issue, Although it might be. I was more talking about sharing the bus on the mother board vs. using the bus on the add on card.

USB 1.1's spec is 12 MB/s. Even its low speed setting for "dumb" peripherals is 1.5 megs, enough for 1400k CD audio.
