I just set up my new 3008 receiver and hooked up the XPA-2 and the XPA-5 and it sounds great!!!I have set all speakers calibrations with the Radio Shack unit and all sound good.I will set Audyssey today and am expecting even more sweeter sound when calibrated.I have set all video to pass through to my Pioneer Plasma and picture for TV and DVD/Bluray using the new Oppo -93 is fantastic.I am real happy that when changing ch.on Comcast there are NO dropouts of sound or picture[very impressive] just a very smooth transaction.I have been running the3008 for about 7 hrs and it is just warm to touch and not HOT.I believe this is due to fact I am running pass through and using the Emotiva amps for power. This is a VERY impressive unit with ALL that it does with sound and video and hook up to many radio and web features. My best moment came when I did a firmware upgrade with a USB STICK which there are 2 front and back so I used the front USB conn. and it downloaded fast and easy and when done said complete on the front panel.I want to thank LOTR and BILL MAC for their sug for me to look into this receiver as I sold my UMC-1 and did not know which direction to go in regards to another unit.I purchased the 3008 on Amazon and paid $1149 which originally was $2000 full price. The receiver came to me in great shape in and outside of box through UPS from Pittsburgh,PA and took 4 days shipping.

Been looking at the same unit, nice to read that you are happy with it. Initially I would have gone for the UMC, but seriously, the more I read on the forum, the more scared I became. Not as much for myself, I could have dealt with any issue it might have had, but my wife would probably not have agreed.. Going to listen to this on friday at my local store, and then i'll add some emo amps instead Thanks for the feedback on the unit, cheers !

Yes add Emo amps as they sound GREAT with the 3008 receiver.I had the UMC-1 from day one and went through many upgrades but I had very few problems upgrading. My unit was pretty stable except drop out of center ch.and volume increases when turning on and from source to source. The audio was great and I had no problem with video pass through to my Pioneer plasma as picture was sharp.I have been on the waiting list for the XMC-1 for almost 2 years and when they could not tell me as to the units functions I got frustrated and looked else where and that is when I started to check out other equiment. The 3008 is real smooth going from ch to ch on Comcast With OUT lossing sound or video I had a big smile on my face and there is NO clicking noise with my unit going from ch to ch or modes to modes.I did do the upgrade and maybe that did the trick.

How's 2 channel stereo SQ ? I like the Integra sound, which I suspect is quite close to Onkyo.

It sounds great in 2CH. and that could also be my Emo XPA amps helping out with the sound.I have had this unit for a few days and it KICKS ASS in audio and video.I suggest if you purchase one do the software upgrade BEFORE you set it up as that is what I did and have had no problems with this unit. You just have to GOOGLE- Onkyo NR 3008 software upgrade and it brings you to the 3008 upgrade site and real easy from this site to upgrade from WEB or USB STICK to unit.

Or, I suppose you can just hook the Onkyo receiver up to your network and do the software update over the LAN-connection. Fully automatic and nearly foolproof as long as your internet connection is stabile.

My wife surprisinglybhas less issues than I withnthe umc-1. Maybe she is sympathetic to my emoaddiction but it's really not too bad at what it does and my biggest gripe is delays getting HDMI sync when changing inputs

Not that fond of intruducing new tech to her, unless I know it's working all the time.

Was out and listened to the 3008 today, but actually came home with a demo model of the 3007 at half price of the 3008. Since I don't care about 3D and audyssey xt32, then I'll consider it a bargain. No difference in SQ really. Gonna play with it on Sunday hopefully, first impression was really good though. The wife will appreciate Internet radio as well :-) so I guess it's time to order an XPA-5 and hopefully add 2 more emo channels when budget allows.
Time for a Carlsberg and some slagging on the couch. Have an excellent evening everyone!

I just calibrated the 3008 today with Audyssey Multi EQ XT 32 and all I can say is WOW.I have owned the Integra 9.8 with the first Audyssey and had thought that was great but the XT32 is far beyond that sound. The calbration came within a foot of my tape ruler and the crossovers were very good and the bass was much tighter than my manual calibrations with a Rat Shack Meter. Before the Audyssey runs it tells you to turn down bass to 75DB and you see it on screen as you turn down the setting on your sub.It seemed that the seeting on the sub was one quarter up and i thought boy that is NOT going to be as tight as I am used to but I was way off as the bass on Bluray HD sound was fantastic. The bass on Music Bluray HD was also fantastic as it was very tight and not a over done and boomy and very musical. This new Audyssey is somthing special as I am a manual calibration favorite but I have been taken to the other side with this new EQ of Audyssey.I love my new 3008 as you are aware by my postings .

I've always wanted to have a listen to some Onkyo stuff but it's hard to find places that sell it around here. Good to see it's working well for you!

I've always wanted to have a listen to some Onkyo stuff but it's hard to find places that sell it around here. Good to see it's working well for you! I know what you mean! * Check London Drugs stores (last year models); they are at clearance prices (very close to dealer cost, only by a miniscule amount), in particular their floor models (you can deal them, shave an additional 15% off or so from their clearance prices)! ...50 to 60% off! ...Not too shabby for us Cannucks! ...Perhaps not as good as our good brothers & sisters South of the border, but still, for Eskimos like us, those Onkyos keep us warm! ...So they are worthy of that Canadian currency premium! ...Just the right balance between Snow Flakes and Alice in Underland! ;D {Check several of them (LD) within couple hundred miles or so; you'll get the one you want.} Or Google Onkyo dealers in your area. Or call Onkyo in New Jersey, and ask them! Check it ALL out! Online Canadian sites; only when they are at clearance prices (last year models, same as the above). If you want the 3008 for example; wait for around the next Christmas Holidays! ...That is if Patience is one of your virtues! ...You can always get what you want! ...But you must try,.. try,.. and try... What was it you were saying again?

After selling my Emotiva UMC-1 processor about 6 months ago - I finally decided to purchase an Onkyo TX-NR3008 receiver - mated to my Emo UPA-7 power amp - and I am very pleased with the sound quality of this unit - additionally as an added bonus this receiver can stream high resolution flac and wma files from my network attached storage device.
Having a built in network interface also made the firmware upgrade extremely easy - no more USB connections from my laptop to do firmware upgrades - the whole fw upgrade took about 15 min. (although Onkyo says it will take about 30).
Bruce - thank you for your great information on this unit. Looking forward to many years of trouble-free operation.

Does the receiver allow you to choose different Audyssey curves like "Reference" and "Flat" ? I found the old receivers like the TX-SR805 to roll off the highs a bit too much with Audyssey turned on, made me look more towards the Denon implementation of Audyssey, but they were a touch too expensive comparatively.

This is a post I have in AVS as well. I was wondering if anyone have any experience with this:
I am having trouble with the following setup: Dvd-A/SACD Player -- Analog out --> Onkyo 3008 --Preout--> Emotiva XPA-5 I have the Onkyo set to Aux input and set the analog ins to be Aux as well in the menu.
With this setup, I dont get any out to my amps. Anyone tried this setup (Analog in to Pre-out with the onkyo only doing volume control)? Is there any specific mode I should be in ?
Thanks Anismo
