At Emofest, I never heard anything about an XSP-1 (an X-series 2.1 preamp) by Christmas or even early next year. What I heard was the XMC-1 (the X-series multi-channel pre/pro) would be available after the UMC-1. Maybe I misheard, but that's what I recall.

klinemj and vincedog3 The info on the XMC-1 that Lonnie shared with me at Emofest was that it would follow the UMC-1, as you mentioned. When I pushed harder for an idea of how long, he said probably 4 to 6 months. On the release of the XSP-1, Big Dan and I were talking about the sonic performance of Emotiva pre-amps and pre/pros in general. During that conversation, on Saturday afternoon, the topic of when might we expect to see the XSP-1 came up. Dan and I were alone in the tech room talking about the sound of the MMC-1 and the USP-1; and the conversation worked its way into discussing the XSP-1 sound. This is when Dan said they hoped we might see this unit around Christmas. This was not any sort of planned announcement and was not said to a group of people asking questions. It was simply an off-the-cuff remark that Dan made when we were shooting the bull -- just between the two of us. I don't want anyone to take this as anything more than what it is. It is NOT a promise of delivery by Christmas. Nor is it an official announcement that the pre-amp will even be available within a specified time frame. This is why I was so careful to point out, during my last post, that I have no way of knowing what Big Dan meant by what he said. It was only to let all of you know that it is a product Emotiva has assigned higher priority in delivering -- nothing more. Don't get upset if it doesn't ship in time for Christmas. They have a lot of products coming down the pipe right now; and this info should just be taken as an indicator of how important this unit is. I am sure everyone would love to have it ship by Christmas. I know I would, but don't get upset if it doesn't. It will be an exceptional pre-amp when it does arrive; and you can take comfort in knowing that it is a product they are anxious to bring to market. ;D I hope I haven't rambled too much. I took a handful of pain pills a while ago and my brain is off in lala land at the moment. I just hope you can make heads or tails out of what I am trying to convey.

roadrunner - good to hear of that conversation w/Big Dan re. the XSP-1. There were a lot of those going on - which is what made it such a cool event! Your takeaway on the XMC-1 timing was similar to mine...I had conversations w/both Big Dan and Lonnie, and while each said slightly different words - I took away that it'd follow a few months after the UMC-1.

What would be nice is if someone at Emo could take 5 minutes to clarify the timetable for the thing, and if the previously communicated estimates are still good, or have been changed.

We probably won't hear anything until they are in production. I don't think Emo wants to say anything until they are certain about a timeframe.

Any word on this? I've found a parasound 2100 with a trigger-in for easier usage, and am resisting buying it in hopes the XSP-1 was still on track for a late-2009 release. Any info? You should give the 2100 a shot and when the XMC-1 is released get one then you can do a direct comparison . If the 2100 is at a good price you can always get close to your purchase price if you decide to sell it. Bill

^^I thinK I'm going to go ahead and give the 2100 a shot, actually. No need to do comparisons, I'm sure I'll be happy with the 2100 and I don't want to hassle with the selling of the unit and taking a potential loss on it when the differences will probably be minor at best.
If Emo can't at least respond to questions about it, one way or another, then I don't feel like waiting around based on blind faith they'll have a podcast or something randomly to tell us it's shipping in a week.
I have to wonder how many other sales their new "we're not going to say anything until the last minute" approach will cost them...

I don't know but they probably aren't going to say anything about your question, either. Maybe you should ask Onkyo the same thing. ;D

If we give a time for anything, we're castigated if it doesn't happen as planned...if we say nothing, we're told that we'll lose sales, etc. Trying to find a mid-point. As far as the XSP, I assume that Lonnie will have news on that when he's back from China next week. If there is anything I can print on it, I will. If someone needs to purchase a preamplifier NOW, I can't make any promises, sorry.

If someone needs to purchase a preamplifier NOW, I can't make any promises, sorry. Don't need anything NOW, but since "maybe by the end of the year" was thrown out before, along with other posters on here who received random information, I was just looking to get the story from the horses mouth, so to speak. I don't care how long I have to wait as long as I have a general idea of what you're working towards. Don't need an exact date, or month. Just a word in general about it's progress. I'd rather be "castigated" by people with money in hand waiting to buy my stuff than ignored by people who have bought other products and are no longer interested. I personally know 2 people who would have jumped all over the USP-1 had they known it was coming earlier, but had already bought other stuff and don't want to take a loss on a sale. I understand you guys are trying to find a middle-ground on information you provide, I get that. However, it seems like the processors are a whole different beast than any of your other stuff (amps, CD players, etc.). What some on here have suggested is that the XSP-1 was put on some sort of backburner until the UMC-1 was done, and if that's the case, fine, but that's the kind of stuff people are looking for.

Dann, I thought you had just misspelled "castrated". I had to get out the dictionary after I stopped laughing about the mayhem that followed. Ok, let the mahem and castigating continue. . .
