Hi, I quote these two description on this model: 1)DSD(SA-CD)/NEURAL DSD Decoding via HDMI/Neural-THX 2)HDCD Decoder = Yes Probably a stupid question: Does that mean this receiver can play/decode SACD & HDCD with a normal cd/dvd/bluray player? In other words, if I have this receiver I don't need to buy a SACD/HDCD player in order to get the higher sound quality of SACD & HDCD

Does that mean this receiver can play/decode SACD & HDCD with a normal cd/dvd/bluray player? It says that the receiver can decode an SACD / HDCD stream. But you still have to buy a player that can read that stream off a disc in order to send it to the receiver.

Thanks. what is the result(effect) if say I have the SACD/HDCD player but the receiver does not decode SACD/HDCD? It confuses me...so what is the purpose of receivers having the ability to decode SACD/HDCD

It confuses me...so what is the purpose of receivers having the ability to decode SACD/HDCD Hi copperband, The the reason for a receiver to deocde SACD and HDCD is so you can bitstream the digital signal from your player into the receiver and use your receivers interal DAC (digital to analogue converter) to decode the signal to analogue. Otherwise you would have to do the analogue conversion in your player and send the audio via it's analogue outputs. In your case I would definately recommend using one of your Panasonic's digital outputs, and let the Maramtz do the decoding, as it is likely to be far superior to the DAC in the Panasonic player...
