here's my problem, at this time I don't have a power amp, and I haven't yet tried the USB on the XDA1, (I'm using the onkyo TX-NR807)
the source to the XDA1 is the Yamaha CD 700 coaxial out>>to XDA1 (coaxial 1 input) XDA1 RCA output>>> TX-NR807 CD INPUT, I have the XDA1 volume at the maximum 80.0, "but there's no sound coming from speakers!!
note: I have tried the optical 1&2 coaxial 1&2 alternatively to no avail... i removed the cable from the XDA1 RCA output to the RCA output of the CD player which takes the XDA1 out of the line "and the music was flowing!!....
(?? if i did everything right shouldn't the XDA1 work through the CD input of the TX-NR807?? "HUH"
regards

Have you tried setting the volume to a lower setting? Like 40. Lonnie said to set it to max but maybe it will help I got my XDA-1 yesterday and can't believe how good it sounds wish yours would work

Hi Wynshad12,
Just a bit confused with your connections; to clarify, is this correct?
CD (Coax) to XDA1 (RCA) to Onkyo (CD input)
2 things to check
1.Is the RCA the only input into the Onkyo CD section? the coax is not? if both are connected, from my experience the digital always takes precedence on the ONKYO. Mine being the 5507.
One thing you could try is on the remote there is an "audio" button. when CD is selected press this and on your OSD you will see a menu, scroll down until you get to "input" and ensure 'analog' is selected. i believe the other options are Auto, and balanced.
Im doing this out of my head so i apologise if some of my menu selections are wrong.
2.The other option is the CD player has a pure direct function. make sure this is turned 'off'. if 'on' it disables the digital output.
Cheers

I know this might sound simple but make sure you have the correct input/output set on the XDA-1. I have multiple times started music and no sound, checked all the connections and then noticed I had the wrong input/output button pressed on the XDA-1. I usually play music off the computer but sometimes I use the CD. Just something to check. All your other connections seem like they should work. Also cycle through your inputs/output buttons to make sure something is not stuck.

CD PLAYER COAXIAL/OPTICAL OUT TO XDA1 COAXIAL/OPTICAL IN, XDA1 RCA ANALOG OUT TO TX-NR807 CD INPUT, THAT'S MY SETUP. IMO, I'm pushing the right buttons and I'm still not getting any sound from my speakers. the XDA1 SETUP IS PRETTY STREIGHT FORWARD IF THE UNIT IS OK AND CONNECTIONS ARE MADE CORRECTLY. I'm still looking for more "responses before I called Emo, for a RMA" as were only human and stuff can go wrong. thanks all

Wynshad,
Same exact issue for me. Tried connected into 2 different systems and also swapped coax connector, Coax jacks, etc. No go. My XDA is going back, Vincent to send a bench tested unit.

For future reference:
- Less use of all caps and "random" "quotes" everywhere
- Don't leave the thing at max volume while you test it! In the event you get it working, you don't want to immediately blow your speakers or ears. 25-30 should be plenty.
- Cycle through each of the inputs with everything connected, then repeat connected to a different input. That'll narrow down whether you just misconnected something, or a specific input isn't working, etc.

@wynshad12 and playbassDid Emotiva confirm that there is a problem with your units? I have the same problem with my unit. With USB it plays but any of the Optical or COAX does not want to play. I did test the optical from my source to my AVR and it was working but source to XDA does not work. I hope it is something small that can be sorted as I'm in South Africa and it will almost be cheaper to just buy another one than to send it back.

There is one person close to me with his XDA-1 working with his equipment. Will take a drive there over the weekend with my XDA-1 and see. Although I have tried two sources now with various cables. The two sources does work with my AVR but will see. Thanks for getting back to me.

Wynshad12,
I mentioned above after a little reading that the CD700 to play Digital needs the pure direct function turned off. i have a Pio with pure audio and it has caught me out a number of times.
Did you check it?

Reading your posts makes my head hurt. maybe the reason why your head hurts "is because you spent more time trying to criticizes other peoples posts instead of helping them with their audio problems, I'm thinking that you could be of some help by helping to answer a few questions pertaining to AUDIO"

Did you check it? yes 12elfthfloor, I did, sorry to let you have to ask twice "just to let you know that I did check! whenever your using pure direct function the information center on the CD S700 turns off, also when your using the USB function, the digital out don't work either,I know that much its just that (my CD-S700 digital outs do not works with the XDA1 period. I don't why but I'll leave that to the experts ;D I have several players>>den on CD-290, panny BD85,pioneer bdpf-31 Sony 550 & dvp-cx995v, with the exception of the (CD-S700) all the rest of these players digital optical & coaxial works through the XDA1. and I love what I'm hearing (the XDA1 is fantastic ) its all good, regards WM

Hi Wynshad12,
Thanks for letting me know, I'm learning all the time about various equipment. Sorry the Yammy didnt work, but great news that it is solved.
The XDA sure is a interesting piece of kit, and it sure gets better with time. Hopefully over the weekend ill try some alternate combinations.
