I was looking to upgrade my two channel listening system. I currently have bookshelf speakers being run by an older Yamaha integrated amp. Sources are all analog right now, but I would like to add some digital ones. I was thinking of getting the XDA-1, but since I have analog sources still I would mainly use it as a DAC. I would also would like to have some bass management so I could add a sub which I currently don't have an easy way to hook up with my existing amp. So I could add the USP to get the bass management. That is $700 just to add digital sources and bass management, before we even get to amplification. With the advent of HDMI many pre-HDMI pre-pros and AVRs are a lot more reasonable than the XDA/USP combo. Would this make sense to consider? I was looking at an Anthem AVM 20, which look to be selling for less than $500. More digital inputs and balanced connections.
