I'm on a roll tonight...after disabling the lights on my XDA but leaving the display intact, I decided I'd see if I could trigger it from my PC so it would shut itself off when I put my computer to sleep at night and come back on when I wake it up.
So I took an 1/8" TRS/headphone connector and a molex plug and connected them with a few feet of wire. I actually used a 1/8" to RCA splitter because I didn't want to deal with separating 3 tiny wires.
On the molex connectors, the yellow/orange lead is +12v, the two center black ones are ground, and the red lead is +5v.
On a TRS connector, the Tip is left, the Ring is right, and the Sleeve is ground. On an RCA splitter, the outer wire on both white and red is ground. Inner white is tip and inner red is ring; I think a mono socket leaves right/ring unconnected so I used left/tip.
This works with the fast hybrid sleep for those of you who use that. I can't wait for SSDs to get a little cheaper because it'll be pretty much instant.

The Molex connector is a pass-through for a fan, but just snipping one off and using the +12 and ground would work the same.
