Sorry to possibly ask this again, but have run through several pages of threads and used search and been unable to find a status of the current variable output implementation. Has it been changed since the original settings (problematic for some using as pre) and does it come with new (linear/logarithmic?) map by default?
EDIT: Finally found it. Sounds like all are shipping logarithmic now.

I received a XDA-1 with the last batch, and am having the vol problem using it as a preamp. 0.5 is way to loud and 3 is insane level.
I have had to connect 2*12 db attenuators to the output while i wait for a fix.
Cheers

Thanks Christdk. Can you tell if you received a linear or logarithmic implementation? Can anyone else confirm preamp functionality has been fixed/still problematic for most uses? A well paced stepped variable output is essential for my use (replacing a couple separates).

I had emailed Lonnie and he informed me all are going out with the new volume control fix. I haven't hooked it directly to an amp so I can't verify, but that is what he told me.

Thanks geebo. Yes, it seemed from other threads all those going out were supposed to have new mapping, so concerned XDA-1s from last batch were still linear. Can anyone confirm this has truly been fixed?

Mine was from the last batch as well and it is logarithmic. It's possible yours slipped thru the crack when they updated that batch. It happens. Maybe you can get Emotiva to pick up the tab on the return shipping. Or maybe it can be fixed by simply replacing the firmware chip. Give Emotiva a call to see how they want to handle it.

When I ordered mine a month ago, I specifically asked if mine could be logarithmic, and they assured me they were all that way.
I've had my volume up to 45 without being deafening, so there's no way it's linear.

I have a smallish room, a high gain power amp (Emotiva XPA-5), and efficient speakers (Def Tech Mythos STS, 91 db).
Connection: CD player-->Toslink optical-->XDA-1-->XLR-->XPA-5.
A decent jazz recording at normal listening level has the XDA-1 set at 40.
Got mine about a month ago. I would conclude that would mean logarithmic.
