Yes, it is the overall value, features, picture & sound quality that makes the criterias of what's the best one. ...Popularity and number of sales get into the equation as well.
* We all know that the Oppo BDP-93 ($499) is the better player overall for BD Picture, Sound, SACD, DVD-Audio, HDCD, DVD upscaling, build quality...
But the Sony BDP-S570 ($129 street) with 3D, DLNA, WI-FI, Netflix, YouTube, and a zillion more Internet streaming provenances, iPod, iPhone remote, 1Gb internal memory for BD Live, plus SACD playback, and a very fast disc loader, plus superb BD picture & Sound is simply the #1 seller because of that very low price! ...Not the best DVD upscaler around, but who cares if you play mainly BDs? ...And at only $129!!!
The Sony BDP-S470 you can get now for only $99!
And the Sony BDP-S770 you can get for $159! It's replacement, the BDP-S780 is $179 and adds more features like VUDU.
...And the price is still coming down!

*** OK, questions for you guys who have the 470, or 570, or 770!
1. => When you play an SACD, the front panel display indicates the time of the track playing; but not the track, only
T is indicated! Right?
- The front panel display doesn't give you any indication at all about the Artist, Title, Track, SACD layer, SACD light, NOTHING!
Second question:
2. => When DSD is set to 'On', and HDMI Audio to 'Auto'; the player send the DSD stream as is.
And if your pre/pro or receiver can accept the DSD audio signal; it will say 'DSD', but if you check the Info by clicking 'Info' or 'Display' on your remote, you'll see
DSD 5.1 (or 5.0) & fs: 44.1kHz, right?
Only if you set the HDMI Audio out to 'PCM' (or DSD to 'Off'); you'll see
PCM Multich & fs: 176.4kHz, right?
