Oppo BDP-80: check. Onkyo TX-SR608: check. Mmmm... I think you would luv the ERC-2's sound. And from both its Analog & Digital outputs (you'll have to check, but I believe that you will prefer the Analog connection). Your 608, does it have a Direct audio mode? ...Yes it does, use that one. It's good for both Analog and Digital sources. And with both Stereo and Multichannel (upconverted). - And use a decent pair of audio interconnects, with metal gold plated end plugs. Yeah, you would luv that CD player, right guys? {Plays good with CDs, HDCD encoded CDs, and Hybrid SACDs, or does it need a firmware update (coming soon) for that last format, or more precisely its CD layer?} ___________________________ * And you're right, the Pure Audio mode is not available in the North American and Taiwanese models for the Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver; only in the European, Australian, and Asian models.

Thanks for the bid of confidence and info,my onkyo does have cd input analog, but i was afraid the onkyo's dacs would take over and destroy whatever the ERC-2 dacs were putting into it,so i would run the analog from the ERC-2 into the cd analog, push my direct button on my avr and i would be getting beautiful 2-channel? Thanks for your time, great forum, been lurking for awhile

So yeah, use the analog outs from the ERC-2 CD player. I am totally (100%) confident that the sound quality will be better (much more beautiful sounding) that way, than going the digital route. And we're here for you anytime you have a question. Bob

It's nice to have both the erc 2 and oppo bdp 95, a modded nad c542 by R,A,M. and a grant fidelity cd 427 tube player. Best of all worlds, can't be any happier! It's sort of like FINE dining when you have a choice of sources to play. emotiva, oppo, nad, awesome manufacturers.

If you really want to blow your mind, add the USP-1 pre-amp to your system. The ERC-2 by its self will make your jaw drop, but the combo of the ERC/USP will take you to an entirely new plateau of listening pleasure.

Live and let live I say. Records are dead? Nope. CD's are dead? Nope. I have them all. The ERC-2 is an excellent player and not only with HDCDs'. It would be interesting to see the negatives posters reaction to a well set up audio system. we are in the same team then. I have them all too, and turntables, cd's, open reel tapes will never be dead for us dedicated audiophiles. I too have emotiva, oppo, nad and grant fidelity CDP's both solid state and tubes. yup the erc 2, the bdp 83, 93 and 95 and a highly modded NAD c-542 by R.A.M. that compares to players costing thousands. My best CDP is the grant fidelity blu laser tube CD 427 the discontinued higher model of the current 327 which has grave reviews. Using telefunken tubes makes that player wonderful. It's built like a tank, heavy as a tank, I think it is a tank! ;D

I wouldn't want to use any other PREAMP with ERC 2. I have a very nice B&K preamp and I wouldn't dare use that on the ERC 2 as awesome as the B&K preamp, instead I matched that with my grant fidelity tube cdp. The emotiva designers designed the USP-1 to compliment the ERC 1 and 2. The new XMC-1 is designed to compliment the ERC 2 even better. Can't wait for it to be released and am in the reserve list!

I received my ERC-2 today and i love it! I also have a Oppo bdp 93. I feel that the ERC-2 is much better sounding than the Oppo. The Oppo is being used thru HDMI though, where as the ERC-2 is not. They both run thru the UMC-1. I can't wait to hear how it sounds thru the XMC-1 using the full capabilities of the balanced XLR in-s and out from the ERC-2 to the XMC-1 then to the balanced amps! I still love the oppo for bluray, it's nice to have both.

IMO, with what you have you are paying way too much for what in the end is a glorified CD player especially if you consider that you have the following alternative right here at Emotiva: Another cheaper option that will get you pretty much identical sound would be to buy the XDA-1 DAC. They use, if I'm correct, the same DAC chips as the emotiva CD player which is what really made that CD-player worth it. You can see it by clicking on the clearance button on the bottom of the website. It is 249. Just hook the digital out from your oppo to the XDA-1 DAC and you're good to go. The sound will be identical to your ears and I highly doubt you will find a significantly audible difference. You also then get the benefit of multiple connection options to the XDA-1. It has an inbuilt "pre-amp" or volume control (which you don't have to use if you find your onkyo sounds better). The XDA-1 can also be set to bypass the XDA-1 volume control depending on your preference of pre-amplifier (your onkyo or the XDA-1) and have it set to be a DAC only. The ERC-2 doesn't give you this option to choose from, you are sort of at the mercy of the quality of the pre-amplifier of your onkyo which MAY not be as good quality as the pre-amp from the XDA-1. (But then again, it may just be better, you get the choice this way!) If you are willing to spend 449, you could get the emotiva UMC-1. I've never heard it. In terms of quality, it's close to the emo cd player and XDA-1. Some reviewers could not hear the difference between the XDA-1 and the UMC-1. However, the XDA-1 and the CD player is supposed to be technically better, if I'm correct. The UMC-1 uses a different DAC. However, what the UMC-1 brings to the table is surround sound digital decoding and some video enhancements and all kinds of goodies like multiple inputs (like the XDA-1). It's a little buggy, but the latest updates seem to have solved a lot of problems. But I haven't heard a single person on this forum complain about it's audio quality and people here tend to be pretty picky in terms of that. So, you might want to have a look at that. If you want to save money get amazing quality: go XDA-1, if you want to take advantage of surround sound and video processing with a (POSSIBLE) very slight sacrifice in audio quality go UMC-1. If you get the UMC-1, it comes with a transferrable 40% discount coupon for the upcoming XMC-1 which is priced retail at about 1,400 or 1,500 dollars. Even if you don't want to get this, there are lots of people that are looking for this coupon. So, you can actually sell this off for quite a decent price giving you a further post-sale discount on the UMC-1. The Emotiva CD-player when you compare the benefits of either the XDA-1 or the UMC-1 becomes a bad deal, IMO. (The product is great, but emotiva just offers better options). The only things that you can gain from the emo-cd player for your setup, is a good digital output (which doesn't make much of an audible difference in my opinion as bits are bits regardless of jitter etc especially when have to run it through an AVR reciever like your onkyo) and...that's pretty much it. So, go with the other two options I mentioned, either will satisfy your craving for audio quality.
