I am not doubting at all that this is a fantastic sounding piece of equipment, but I am a techie through and through, thus my need to know. No matter the answer to my question, I am very likely still ordering one. Too many good things about it, and too many people are far too happy with it. As this is an analog output device, either of these COULD apply, so I am asking: is the attenuation stage for this a digitally controlled analog chip/device and applied AFTER D/A conversion, or is the attenuation a bit-reduction scheme, applied to the digital side of things, even before the D/A? (The latter of these options I am not a HUGE fan of...)

What I have heard is that its an analog stepped volume control after D/A.

I saw that PDF after I posted this morning... Found it where you posted it in a previous thread about swapping the op-amps back in May. That does make me very happy that the XLR outputs appear to be true balanced. That means I can maintain my painfully low noise floor all the way through my crossover. I was always very happy with my system... Thanks guys. (Be sure you get all of the sarcasm slathered through that...) I guess I can aim MOST of that to DYohn... He and I are always trying to one-up each other on a different board. Right, DYohn? Finding this forum has made me put all of my PC speaker system designing on the back burner - for now. New toys will include the Emotiva XDA-1 (ordered this morning), the XPA-2 (to be ordered at a point in the VERY near future), Behringer 24/96 crossover (in posession), the Cambridge Audio iD100 (in posession)... Now I just need to design a TL for the Tymphany LAT700 subwoofer (a pair in posession - one for car, one for house), and decide on an amplifier for it (UPA-1?)...

You, sarcastic? Never! You are the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life. Try the XDA-1, let us know if you like it. And if you ever want to quit playing around with those LAT compression drivers and design a *real* subwoofer, let me know and I'll show you how.
