anyone have any issues with their XDA-1 responding to the remote? sometimes it will work flawlessly for hours and other times it requires me to restart the unit (sometimes more than once) to get it to respond to the remote

I have not had any oddities with the remote on my XDA-1. First thing I would check is the batteries and if that doesn't cure your remote I would call Emo tech support. You may a to replace the remote.
If you want to tinker while waiting for Emo to open in the morning, you may want to open it up and check that all the plug-in connections are snug. I had a CD player a few years ago that was having intermitten remote problems. When I opened it up I found one of the connectors only partially plugged all the way in. After I snugged up the connection the problem went away. Good luck.

About a month or so ago I had an issue for maybe two days where it would randomly quit responding to volume adjustments.
I switched it off and on a few times and a day later it was back to 100%. No issues since.

I too have had occasions were it would take 3 or 4 button pushes to respond and then work perfectly for days. It's very random and very odd as I none of my other Emo remotes have acted like this. I will try fresh batteries if it continues.
