Sony BDP-S300 and XDA-1

I have an older Sony Blu-Ray Player (BDP-S300) that I listen to CD's through. However, they don't sound so good. Therefore my question, If I connect my sony to an XDA with a digital connection, the decoding would be done in the XDA, correct?

If I then go from the XDA to my LMC-1 via analog, it would pass through the LMC without additional decoding and out to the amp...is all this correct or do I have it all wrong.

If all wrong.....what do you suggest? Thanks.
