I had a Marantz SA8001 SACD player but that gave up the ghost awhile back and been looking for another sacd player. Marantz released the SA8004 (with great reviews) and was unfortunately sold out at my dealer so I settled for their NA7004 which is similar to the SA8004 but without the transport mechanisms. So after a few days of letting it run in I compared it to my XDA-1.
Immediately when doing an A/B I had a real hard time identifying which of the two was better overall. They were so different in terms of components and also functionality but yet sounded so similar.
After much strenuous A/B, swapping out cables, adjusting the sound levels I came to the conclusion that the NA7004 had a slightly wider sound stage and was less hot on top. They both retrieved the same amount of information off the discs and had instruments and singers all in the right spots on the sound stage.
The major different in terms of functionality is that the NA7004 is also a network music player and I found I really did not like how long it took to find my songs over the network (due to large library) using the players display and also did not like the 1960's era look when "trying" to control it from a web browser. NA7004 does not play SACD material but neither does the XDA-1 and I do miss the sound of my SACD discs.
I was not expecting this to turn out the way it did Lets face it, if its cheap how good can it be ? Wrong !!!! If my dual UPA-1's and now this XDA-1 have anything to say, its that Emotiva products can and do stand up against more costlier manufacturers.
So get the XDA-1 before the 4th of july special ends !!!!! Heck even at the usual price, this XDA is a steal.
