Chuckienut The front face of the speakers will be out in front of the wall, about a 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. There will be no wall behind them however. Just another open room. Now I understand, however, I'm concerned about the reflective effect of the sound off the wall's surface surrounding the enclosure of the 8.3's. I would think you definitely want to use the boundary compensation but I'd hope others here will comment and I'd definitely consult with Emo.

I agree with Chuckienut. Emotiva's Reference Series speakers have wide dispersion and I am not sure about the impact you would encounter with your planned installment of the ERT-8.3. It may be that there will be no negative impact, but I would want to get Lonnie's input before hand. In all the years I have been in this hobby I have never encountered this type of installation with full range towers. This is virgin territory for me so I have no idea what to expect with your intended installation.
Lonnie worked with Vance Dickason in designing these speaker for Emotiva; and, I suspect he could offer some sage advice on your planned usage of the 8.3 speakers. Be sure to share what Lonnie's response is. It might prove useful to other Lounge members.

Sorry, Pauly, but them's the facts. The Gallos *are* better speakers than the others mentioned and they *do* outperform them...

I personally don't like the look of the Gallos but that's just my preference. It's interesting for me--my obvious first choice for picking speakers is the SQ and the cabinet type, etc. is not that important. A nice to have sure, but typically not the determining factor. These would have to really sound over the top for me to be OK with the appearance. Again, just my opinion!!! ;D I just don't have anthing that matches....................

In addition, can I assume the speakers would be firing exactly perpendicular to the wall. I'm not sure if you care or have considered it, but most speakers sound their best when toed in towards the main listening position, at least to some varying degree. In fact mine sound best firing exactly at the main listening position for best imaging. Just food for thought. I have never heard the aperions, but they are receiving rave reviews and I have heard from several owners who are very happy with them. If your wife approves of them, you can audition them with nothing to lose, as they pay shipping both ways. Ultimately I feel like you have to find a list of speakers that have the ever elusive WAF, and just audition each one that you can before making your final decision.

I can modify my wall to allow the speakers to be toed in if set up requires this. I will just cut a slightly bigger opening when I get them. If I make it to Emofest this year is when I plan to but them.

Are those giant towers the old Infinity Betas? I saw a set of those for sale on AudioGon recently. Just enormous. If I remember right they are over 1000 pounds a piece. Boy would I love to hear them though!
One speaker you may consider that look good in a contemporary way (and are square which makes them easily sunk into walls, etc. is the Zu Audio Omens. Great looking speaking, and I have heard some excellent reviews. Never heard them personally, although it's on the bucket list. Let us know how this works out for you.

Sorry, Pauly, but them's the facts. The Gallos *are* better speakers than the others mentioned and they *do* outperform them... -RW- As a fact, according to you, this is an objective statement. Could you please provide the objective evidence supporting it? I thought Pauly was pretty diplomatic in calling out your ridiculous assertion. So, please, as a fact, that they are objectively better than all other speakers mentioned in this thread, please provide the evidence. Personally, I think the Gallos are some of the ugliest speakers I've ever seen. Now that, my personal preference, is a factual statement, supported by the fact that I was the one stating my preference.

They are ugly to me too, some of the ugliest. I wouldn't want them in my living room and I am very tolerant in that regard.
