I am contemplating a purchase of this dac but I have a few questions that don't seem to be covered in the forum archives. I read a review that said the unit has asynchronous usb support but the specs from Emotiva don't state this. Does it or doesn't it? also, can the up sampling be turned off. I have found from previous experience with up sampling players that on some music, the up sampling gives me listener fatigue.
Lastly, is this dac significantly better than the HRT Music Streamer II+ that I am using now, other than the fact that it has more input options? This unit seems too good to be true and in the past, I have been disappointed with low cost equipment.
Associated equipment:
Odyssey Stratos extreme+++ with Kismet boards Odyssey Kismet reference floor standing speakers Audible Illusions Modulus 3A tube preamp Sony SCD 777ES sacd player All interconnects and speaker wire MIT Terminator 2 All power cords and filtering courtesy of Shunyata HP laptop running Vista 64 bit and J Rivers Media Center 16
I am hoping to connect both the laptop and sacd player to the dac for increased performance.

The XDA-1 does not upsample any of its inputs. It supports all standard bit rates and frequencies up to 24bits/192KHz and outputs the same bit depth and frequency as is input. In addition to using one of the better DAC chips available, the XDA-1 also has a discrete dual differential, fully balanced output stage. It is an advanced DAC and a digital pre-amp rolled into one unit.
Emotiva is noted for selling high quality products at insanely low prices. They are able to do this because they manufacture their products in China and sell direct to the end-user. Thus, eliminating the price markups from the normal channel tacked on by the distributor and the wholesaler. Your concern about not getting your money's worth is foundless with Emotiva simply because you have 30 days to evaluate any product you purchase from them. Should you decide you don't like the XDA-1, for any reason, you can return it for a no questions asked refund.
