Can I ask you something? Why are you Canadians such bad tippers? We go out a lot here and are regulars at a lot of places and we constantly hear about stingy Canadians.
I mean, Chinese and Europeans I can sort of understand, they're from another continent and usually just visiting, but Canada is supposed to be on the same team. All I know is people who serve hate Canadians.
No offense, just curious. ;D

In the USA restaurants pay very low wages to wait staff so they depend upon tips to make a living. In Europe and Australia wait staff are paid a much higher wage so tips are generally smaller if given. Canada seems to more closely follow the USA method and tipping is customary.

Yeah in a lot of states those servers and bartenders only make $2 an hour, but they are taxed as though they make 20% tips, which is the standard, and then they must also share with bidders and expos, host staff. So you should tip appropriately, it's a very stressful job. Think of it as they are earning their fee, same as the one you earn in your profession. If you were a realtor and had $3000 commission coming to you, and you did all your due diligence and did a superb job, you would be fairly hot at only getting $1000. Same thing.
