Thinking of going with the H/K7550 and the XPA-5..The Onkyo TX-NR5008..and the XPA-5..or the UMC-1 and XPA-5..I will use my two UPA-1's for the front main and the XPA-5 for the surrounds..Now both H/K and the Onkyo will drive the surrounds good. but not like the XPA-5 will..this will happen within the next few weeks..maybe 4 to 5 weeks..I will upgade to higher end speaker by Oct..November and may go with the Emo speakers..Anyone here have the ERT 8.3's?..and if you do how are they in a 2.1 set..Musically?..Any input would be of great help.As always this is where i hangout and have pickup some really great tips from you Guru/Jedi Master guys!..Thanks.

My buddy has 8.3s for L/R and an XPA-5. His rig sounds great in 2-channel mode with decent sources (CDs, HDCDs, etc.).
Although you could run the 8.3s as full range, it is best to use a subwoofer for full effect.

If I were you, I don't think I'd be looking for a receiver to mate up to those power amps. Why not get a UMC-1 or some other AV Preprocessor? The UMC-1 or one of the Onkyo or Marantz prepros would make an excellent front end to those monster amps you're gonna buy...
Secondly, I think I would upgrade my speakers first before buying the monster amps. This is because the speakers will largely determine which amps you'll need. If you get some very efficient speakers (think Klipsch Heresy, Cornwall, Zu Omen, etc.) you will most certainly NOT need 200 watts/ch. to reach ear-bleeding sound pressure levels. With speakers like those, good-quality 50 watt/ch. amps is all you'd need to reach insane sound pressure levels.
Think about it...

To the OP, if you haven't already read the lengthy thread on the Onkyo recall on most of their xx08 series receivers/processor, which also includes many of the sister Integra models, I would do so before buying into the xx08 series models. The xx09 models are beginning to trickle out now, so you may want to wait and save yourself a "possible" headache as not all owners are having problems.

Jamrock..thanks for the input..after looking into what i would have too pay for the H/K7550..it really does make more sense to go with the UMC-1..its just more versatile can do more with it..like adding the XDA-1 to it which i will..Now i have been looking really hard at Polks LSi707..but the price!..man i can almost buy a nice used car that them price's..lol..Emo's 8.3s are real attractive at that price. And i can replace all the surrounds including the subs..and still walk away with cash in my pocket..
