I'm Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update! Back in September I met a fellow metalhead in my criminology class at my University who likes many of the same bands as myself. He also has his own black metal band and I go to their practice all the time, concerts too. In November I purchased my first guitar and started learning how to play. This means I have another expensive hobby besides HT.

Speaking of metal...I recently discovered a t.v. show called "That Metal Show" on VH1 classic. It's great! They always have a cool guest musician, and two other guests that they interview in length. Plus, the main host of the show, Eddie Trunk, is a real music lover with a vast knowledge of metal music and music history. I highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in heavy metal music, especially 80s era bands as that who seems to be featured the most.

I watch it pretty regularly when I can. This is the sort of show I would have if I had a music show myself. I have a couple of friends like Eddie who I can sit and talk music about . My wife thinks we are dorks, but it's cool to see actual fans giving an outlet to a genre like metal. Have you seen Metal Evolution? It's another great show by Sam Dunn who is also a mega-fan of these bands. They have different variants of the metal genre (black, power, shock, glam, etc) and he breaks it down with great history and interviews. Highly recommended show.

Never seen Metal Evolution, but it sounds great as well. Can you please let us know what network airs it, and I will see if we get that channel. ;D Seriously though, I do want to check it out.

Very cool, I had not heard this cover in a long time. I forgot they did it. Here is the original, and in my opinion Jane's was one of those bands that metal heads, art punk and everyone in between can get into. Jane's were one of the best back in those days.

This guy actually did a documentary I seen quite a while back called Metal: A Headbangers Journey. This really is an excellent documentary, and this kid a true blue, dyed in the wool metal head. In fact, after watching it, I had to go on and on about it to my friends (one of whom actually watched it as well) about how great it was. I didn't know he did an entire series as well. Thanks for the tip and the link! Alternately, I tried watching "Until the light takes us" on Netflix, hoping that it would be similar, but I only found it to be boring and poorly done. Now if they would just start showing re-runs of the headbangers ball, The Decline of the Western Civilization trilogy would be released on BD, and the Hard and Heavy video magazine would show up on Netflix, and the various "Metal through the ages" documentaries would all come out somewhere, I would be complete. ;D

So, maybe it's an old thread but, what the heck. I believe someone here said that they were enjoying Circus Maximus. Well, I give it a try on Pandora. Although they play 1 CM song in 10, the track they chose were surprising. Glory to the Empire, Arrival of Love, Abyss were the first 3. The first thing that jumped out at me was that the production was rather retro. In a good way. Each instrument was clear and located. It was the effects that had me pondering where i had heard that type of production before. It hit me that some of the 80's and 90's had a lot of the same effects. Still sounded pretty damn good. I have no idea what these guys sound like live. Their albums/discs/Pandora stuff proves that talent can take many forms. I'm a fan. The guitar on Arrival still makes me smile whenever I hear it. Might not be the greatest of all time but, it puts me to shame. I've actually used that cut for demos of the system and people always ask, "Who the hell was THAT?" Thanks for the turn on whoever you were.

1. I seem to like 1 band from each genre, but it was late 80s thrash that got me into metal so I'll say that. 2. The Big 4, Chimaira, Opeth, Arch Enemy 3. Crisp, sharp production. Think Chimaira. Though I have a special place in my heart for And Justice for All, and I actually really like St Anger(took me 8 or 9 years to "get" it though) 4. 2 things are ruining metal: First, shitty vocalists of two types - the wimpy, whiny ones who have no balls, and the ones who sound like they're puking. I like a good death metal screamer/growler who can do it well(Mikael Akerfeldt, Mark Hunter) but too many are just terrible that they ruin their bands. Secondly, the fact that old bands never retire, so there's no room/money for new bands. All the oldest bands arw still around, and for no reason. No disrespect to their contributions to metal, but there's no reason Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Metallica,Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax,Motley Crue etc. etc. need to still be making albums and touring. Step aside already for another generation to take over.
One more thing - Metal Evolution is definitely worth the watch.

I am only a metal chipper, I just listen to some every now and then. Mamoth is a band that I like, and of course Sabbath. But I need to be in the right mood for some Megadeath. Usually a bit angry and pissed at the United Nations works great! (Mustaine joke.)

Metaldude, i go back to Budgie as well. I still think Burke Shelley's solo on Black Velvet Stallion is one of the best out there. Being a southern boy we had some bands in the south that had a good metal edge to them for there day. In the 70's the band that played my high school named White Witch rocks. In the 80's a band named AXE was as Metal as a southern band ive heard.

I'll probably gets flamed for this one but I've been liking this song.
One of the reasons why I like Otep is they consistently have one of my favorite bands One-Eyed Doll open up for them.
This was one from last year that I found really enjoyable.
