I first had 2 upa-1's and a XPA-3. I returned the upa-1's and was ok with just the XPA-3 but I wanted to future proof my amp setup and I have no more room for another amp so I decided the XPA-5 was the way to go.
I am glad I went this route. the XPA-5 is a fantastic piece. It provides plenty of juice for all my speakers.
I am using a Marantz sr5005 as a pre/pro. My speakers are Aperion Audio 6T's, 5C, and 4bp's.
And as you all know. Emotiva has excellent customer service. Them along wth Aperion and SVS make me a happy ID customer.
I'm now saving up for when Emotiva comes out with a 3D compatible processor.

Won't have to wait long, Brian. They just announced a "new" UMC (UMC-2?) that will be 3D capable to go on sale for the holidays and the XMC-1 is slated for sale during the same time frame.

Yep, I have nothing but good things to say about my XPA-5. It's definitely the best HT amp I've owned.
Congrats on the purchase, and welcome to the lounge.

I was using a Marantz 5005 as a pre/pro with my XPA-5 before I got the UMC-1. I agree that the XPA-5 is a great amp. No regrets whatsoever. Of course I have a case of upgraditis but I also suffer from hypowalletism! :-(
Now if only those lottery numbers would fall into place... ;D

If you would quit wasting your money on lottery tickets and buy Baidu (ticker symbol BIDU) you could buy any amp you want plus.....!

The lottery is a tax on the poor and ignorant. I'm unaware of this and since I buy the lottery, guess I'm paying the tax.

Having done this, overall I am very happy. I do like the SQ of the 5005, which is why it's doing main receiver duty in the family room. The UMC allows me to enjoy its SQ and a separate amp. I don't use the video processing in the UMC but it was very close to that of the Oppo's. Differences: SQ of UMC-1 is better than the 5005. I like the 3 different EQs I can apply as well as separate channel trims. UMC-1 is excellent value. Cons: UMC has HDMI dropout issues (reported to be fixed in an upcoming firmware release). Since I do not use a cable/sat box with the UMC-1, no issues for me. I do have an issue using the Dish Network Vip22k receiver with the 5005 over HDMI. It is unable to lock video (it flickers constantly) and also renders the sat remote useless (cant change channels, invoke the Guide etc..). Now I've got it hooked up over component cables to the 5005 and no problems. So it appears that the HDMI issues aren't localised just to the UMC-1.

I bought my XPA 5 about a year ago and I have NO regrets. Before buying it I was fantasizing about being rich and being able to afford a whole brand new 5.1 set of Audio Physic speakers, but now that I hooked up my XPA-5 I have not fantasized once! The difference in SQ if huge and I can't think of anything I would change about my audio system anymore.

I suspect it will be around long after the XPR-5 is discontinued.

I agree the XPA-5 for what you get plus the price its gong for now is a steel!I have two UPA-1's with my H/K setup for music only and i did an A/B between the two setups with my Niles A/B switch which made it very easy for me too do for music the UPA-1's won out.But not by much.
