Derek, Thanks for all of those picture and videos. I was beginning to wonder if you and Rachel were the "unofficial" official photographers. ;D

Derek, Thanks for all of those picture and videos. I was beginning to wonder if you and Rachel were the "unofficial" official photographers. ;D Well, what can I say, I take pictures of what I love... And when I make a promise to you all to take pictures and videos, I take pictures and video. ;D While mine aren't at nearly the same caliber as Rachel's, I did my best I could with 1/2 of my degree and a really cheepo digital camera. Left my SLR at home. :-(

There were prizes ... and a grand prize? What was the grand prize?
I knew I should have driven 20 hours from Canada's capital for a chance to win the grand prize. Maybe next year.
Thanks for pics and videos to those posting.

To Dan, Cathy, and the entire Emotiva Saff
Thank You! As always, we had a blast. The girls and I can't stop talking about how much fun we had. They are already asking to go back next year. Area 51 was a really cool idea and fantastic gesture of goodwill! Great food, live music, old and new friends. Good times...
dwayland Great pics, man!

Just for you.. there's a prize for the most distant attendee! Great idea to get a group of like-minded enthusiasts together for the trip. Make a vacation of it as there's lots to do around the area of Nashville.

I would have to fly Darwin- Sydney-Dallas then a local flight to Nashville. That must come close to being most distance travelled.

I would have to fly Darwin- Sydney-Dallas then a local flight to Nashville. That must come close to being most distance travelled. Dave. Would you cross the Atlantic or rather the Pacific? We went to Oz once: 1/ Brussels-London-Singapore-Sydney-Cairns 2/ Then a motorhome back to Sydney, 18 days 3/ a flight to the Red Center, where we did a 5-day camping tour. 4/ flight to Adelaide 5/ motorhome to Melbourne 11 days (saw our dreamhouse on the Great Ocean Road, we are bulding something similar here) 6/ Return Next time, we come to Darwin, that's a promise! And my wife called her business "Brisbane Consulting" in honour of that great and vibrant young city!! My next business, if I ever start another one, would be called someting like " Adelaide interior" or so.... Or.. ADELAIDESIGN Attachm. is pic of the Oz house Attachments:

Thanks for your impressions of the gear at Emofest, especially for the Airmotiv speakers. If you wouldn't mind, could you compare and contrast the 3 models - the 4, 5, and 6? I'm wondering what the main differences are in sound between them. Thanks! [/quote]
Sorry for the delayed response here Monku! Went white water rafting on the Ocoee with some buds right after the fest.
Anyway, I never got to hear the 5's. On the 6's, I started listening to them focusing on the just the highs. Again, like the 4's these tweeters just have to be heard to be appreciated. They are so articulate, and clear in the upper ranges that it's like the frequency of your own ears have been extended. My Polk Audio Lsi's have the Vifa dual ring raditor tweeters that are amazing. I believe that some of the Krell's use this same tweeter. All I can say is that after hearing these Airmotiv's I am now left wanting. I believe this maybe the best high end I have ever heard come out of a tweeter. Additionally, the off axis is much better on the Airmotiv's. The Vifa's are great, but you definitely have to be in the sweet spot. The sweet spot on these folded ribbons is wider. At least they are on the Airmotiv's.
The midrange seemed a little meatier, or chestier to me without losing any clairty or presence. Thicker sounding. The lows were very impressive on the 6's. I remember the Emotiva rep. saying that they were about four times the power of the 4's.....big difference. (Digressing here a bit I also learned that all Airmotiv's are internally biamped with separate power amps for the highs/lows) I asked the rep to crank the 6's a little....and wow. These things can move a lot of air. They can punch some bass when called on to do so. One thing that I noticed is that these were set up about 3ft+ from the rear walls vs the 4's in the other room being about 10-12" from the rear wall. All Airmotiv's are rear ported, so the impressive bass response from the 4's in this setup is more understood. But the 6's being this distance from the rear wall, and having this great low end was just great to hear. They extend pretty low. Seems like I was hearing lows pretty clearly in the the 40-50hz range. Also, impressive was the fullness and clarity of the lows even when the volume was reduced. I could still hear some bass impact at way lower volumes. The words that come to mind to describe these are "balance" and "range". Balance between frequency ranges low to high is exceptionally good even when the volumes levels are greatly changed. And, the frequency range, especially in the high end, is to die for. As I was hearing these, my mind was racing a 1000 mph trying to remember/compare if I have ever heard anything anywhere near this price range that sounded as great as these? I don't think I have. If Emotiva had a powered center to match these I would be tempted to try them as a surround sound system. Of course these were being demoed in a "eqed" room, but still, if I had these at home they just might be the best sounding speakers I've ever owned. I definitely believe we will see this tweeter design in Emotiva speaker design in the future! Take care!
