The UPA's are supposed to arrive today. I'm hoping the weather isn't too bad because I will not be home when they arrive. I'm leaving the fedex driver a note though no signature is required. I have the black trim waiting and I just got another hdmi cable from Monoprice (love them) so I now have both the blu ray and xbox connected to the umc and output to the tv. Also I got some of their nice 3 foot stereo rca IC's for pro to amp connections.
I'm still trying to figure out how to switch inputs. I've gone through the menu extensively but haven't read all of the manual yet so I might be missing something. For instance I have optical out from the tv to umc for my over air antenna connection. But when I go to the cable input I can't get the optical to 'sync' up. It's even harder having to use the display window on the umc. I can't use the OSD because the antenna feed doesn't pass through the processor.
So far though, I'm very impressed all around. Will update with more thoughts tomorrow night. I hope to find a good redbox movie I haven't seen with lots of dynamics to really test the new system out.

Whew. I just spent a few hours messing with the settings. It seems I finally have a better grasp on it. I have the Xbox input named and both audio/video are synced. Same for the blu ray player. The tv is a little annoying because I don't have a cable service so I can't feed an hdmi via hd cable box to the umc. So I need to hit the tv button on the Samsung remote and cable on the Emotiva remote. I'm thinking a good universal such as one of the Harmony remotes would allow both to be turned on with one button push.
Also, when it came to adjusting the cable settings I kept switching inputs back to the blu ray so I could use the OSD as the little umc window is difficult to use for adjustments.

I love the black trim, I'm going to have to make the switch myself.

Just pull the trim off - much cheaper.

IMO, the trim itself looks better in black vs. no trim.

Did the UPA-1 specs change recently. The pair I just bought used were purchased by the original owner in mid 2010. The manual says the secondary capacitance is 20k. But the Emotiva online product section says it's 80k. There are other discrepancies too. Such as the watts into 4ohms is 300 not 350 as on the website.

^^ Anyone know? I'd really to find out if I have the latest version or if those were misprints. That manual was printed in 2009.

There are usually a lot of discrepancies between web and manual, but unless there is a new model, the actual hardware spec seems to stay the same. They did revise amp power into 4ohms up a bit on most models a while ago as this supposedly more accurately reflected the capabilities.

Do the upa-1 meters only have one led per amp? I thought they moved as volume increased or with music. Not that I care much. I have the led's off now but curious why the large display window if only one led is used.

There are no meters on the UPA-1s. Just a (defeatable) channel status light.

Nemesis, do you know if the red warning light can still come on if the channel status light is defeated?
Thanks

Yes, it can. Just like e.g. the XPA-5.

I've noticed these weird instances of audio dropping out while watching over the air channels. I have an optical out from my plasma to the UMC. The antenna coax is of course fed directly into the back of tv. The sound will be gone from a channel that a moment before was working. Then if I switch to a higher/lower channel, if that channel has sound and I switch back the former channel will now have sound. If however the channel I switch to also doesn't have sound if I switch back, there is still no sound. I tried the tv internal speakers and flipping through all channels no such issue. And back and forth and the issue kept repeating itself.
