Hi all. I have a question regarding the audio output displayed on the umc while playing a bluray disc (dark knight). its displaying ( Direct Multi PCM)? I have it hooked up through hdmi and when I hit info its says format :multi pcm/ 48khz/3/2/lfe. shouldnt the umc one automatically process it as dolby true hd? im sure its something im missing.. but maybe someone has already experienced. help is greatly appreciated. one good thing i can say is the xpa 5 is an AWESOME amp. sound is Fantastic!

If you have the older FAT PS3 like me then all the processing is done by the PS3 and so all your going to see is the Multi what ever. If you have the slim you can change your settings to bitmap or something and the processing will take place in the pre-pro vs the PS3. It does not matter where it gets decoded but everyone I know like to see the DTS or Dolby in the display.

SDMonkey nailed it except for the "bitmap". That's an image. He meant to say Bitstream. The Fat PS3 (which I have) does not allow for bitstream but as mentioned, there is no sonic benefit of using Bitstream. The only downside is the UMC-1 will not display Dolby TrueHD ect.
