I do not have the set...yet. Regarding the sound issues, I hope that Emotiva is testing the XMC-1 using bitstream with this set just to be sure that it does not repeat the same issues that some other receivers seem to have.
If this is the work of THX Media Director or another authoring change that they made, then some devices may be choking on the changes that supply additional data within the stream. It makes sense to me that having the Blu-ray player perform the conversion from stream to PCM fixes this. Perhaps the Blu-ray player knows how to interpret the stream better than some of the receivers do.

It ain't the first time that FOX is doing that: that you have to update your gear in order to play their BD titles! Remember 'Avatar' too?

I've not had a problem with my Star Wars blu-rays. My Oppo's BDP-83 & BDP-93 with my UMC-1 and Panasonic plasma are glitch free. I have however heard that several Onkyo receivers from the last few generations are having problems again with the DTS-HD MA "bomb", inparticular the Star Wars blu-rays.

Apparently the work around for now is to set your blu-ray player to output PCM and not bitstream.

My HTPC refused to play the discs because my software needed an update, but my internet was not working at the time. Anydvd also needed an update, so I was forced to use the PS3 to play it. Mine is the older model that can only output PCM. This method, I had zero issues at all with audio playback.
The picture was absolutely flawless. For a movie made in the late 70's, the grain is minimal, the colors are sharp, and post-processing seemed to remove every scratch in the film.

PCM Audio is fine indeed, but this is not the way it was meant to be in the first place! And to be clear here, FOX is the number one culprit! Your display (LCD, LED, Plasma, or Front Projector) doesn't have anything to do with those issues! FOX is simply forcing people to upgrade (firmware updates) their A/V Receivers first (several Denon ones), and your PS3 as well, and even some Blu-ray players from Panasonic, Oppo, and others... And on top of that, the famous DTS bomb is back! ...With some Onkyo receivers indeed. *** BUT BUT BUT, it is FOX with George Lucas and their anti-piracy paranoia, and with that new THX Media Director's feature embedded in those BDs (plus the new codecs), who are imposing their own set of rules to the entire electronic industry! Before 'Avatar' and 'Star Wars - The Complete Saga' from FOX came on Blu-ray, the world was a much better place to be! Tell me if I'm wrong?

All of the discs play in my Oppo BD-83 expect for The Return of the Jedi. Weird. It doesn't play in the Sony BRD player either.

A friend and I watched all 6 films over two weekends on my Marantz 7004 player with the Onkyo 886 prepro decoding DTS-HDM - no problems at all and I still have the original firmware on my 886.

I'll add my speculation here. I've rented the whole series from blockbuster. Several times I have had to send back star wars discs because they would not play on my system. Every time but once, when I got the replacement, it would play fine with no issues. The last time it took 3 different discs. I'm thinking there was some bad discs released. I don't think it was just the new things they added. If that were just it, why would just some discs play and not others? From my own experience, I'm leaning towards a lot of defective discs.

I must be the lucky one here, as all of these have played perfectly in both my setups.

No, all the Blu-ray discs from FOX with the new THX Media Director embedded feature are perfect. It is Denon, Panasonic, Onkyo, Samsung, Integra, Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha, Oppo, LG, Harman Kardon, Arcam, Rotel, NAD, Marantz, and Sherwood A/V Receivers & Blu-ray players that have defective high res audio decoders. You need new firmware updates. Check with your own product's website for that latest firmware update.

I just upgraded the firmware on my Oppo BDP-83, the only one I have got to play so far is the first disc, every other disc just hangs up, won't even get to the title screen.

I returned my 'Star Wears: The Complete Scandal Saga' set back to my store for a full refund. * I'll wait for a new Blu-ray rerelease, sometime next year, in 3D.

The lastest public firmware versions for both the Oppo BDP-83 & Oppo BDP-93 have played all of 6 of the Star Wars episodes in my setups, so this definitely makes one wonder what the problem is with this blu-ray saga.
