Hi I sure hope everyone had a better day than I'm having. Looks like I'll be calling for a (RMA) number for my ERC-1 it just stoped playing. I was listening to music it was playing fine. Took out a cd put in another and it would not begin playing. Just kept saying " Loading" I never have had any problems with it. I think I got it in September last year so it's just a little over a year old. I've read about others having problems with cd's getting stuck and such. Usually I never have trouble with my equipment. Matter of fact this is the first peice of audio equipment that I will have to get repaired other than a Carver power amp, and pre-amp I brought on e-bay. I never brought anything else on e-bay after that. I'm a little disapointed. Now I have to spend money to ship this thing back. So I'll keep you posted on how this goes with Emotiva. In the mean time I think I'm gonna start looking for a new one. I'm open to suggestions and/or comments.

Can you get the CD out and play the first one that was in there?
The ERC-1 and ERC-2 won't play EVER single type of CD.

Yes the cd's go into the player just like normal then you can hear it shifting like it's trying to play but nothing happens. it will eject when I push the eject button. Yes I did try the cd that it played last again it would not play again. Just says loading and no track number or counting comes on the display.

It's like the motor that spins the disc, and moves the lasor has failed. The motor that loads and unloads the cd's is still working. I don't think it's anything major, just replace a transport motor.
I'll tell you one thing though, listening to music from my LG dvd player sounds like crap compared to the ERC-1. Big difference.

I'm guessing it is the first piece of audio equipment you've owned that has come with a 5 year warranty. You have almost 4 years more of warranty remaining. Plus it cost you much less than other CD players of similar quality.
It's your lucky day! ;D

Most equipment manufactors give 90 days parts and labor, and one year for just parts. I would have passed the year mark on 9/16/11. Boy to have a player go bad one and a half months after the warranty expires would have really sucked. Yes this is the first peice of equipment I've owned that has a 5 year warranty. Now I get to see first hand how emotiva's customer service works, and see how long this whole repair process takes.

This will sound like a stupid question, of course. But being a computer engineer, I have an excuse for making it* ;D You did try already to switch the ERC1 off the plug, wait a bit, and reconnect it, of course? I once had a Philips CD player that would also stall on "loading...", and would get back working if I disconnected it from the mains for a few minutes. * - "Just reboot it and you'll be fine"

In addition to "rebooting" the ERC-1 did you check to see if it has a blown fuse? Another possibility is that you already have a CD in the player and when you insert the new disc into the front panel slot it just displays reading over and over. This happened to me once. My wife had played a CD the night before and when she was through she just turned the ERC-1 off. The next day I turned it on and loaded a new CD, not realizing there was already one in the player. For about 20 seconds I just stood watching "reading" scroll across the display. I pushed Eject, removed the CD completely and re-inserted it into the slot. This time, it came right back out and I noticed I had inserted it upside down. After calling myself a dummy, I re-inserted the CD to again view "reading" scroll by. About that time, I noticed a CD jewel box sitting on the equipment rack. I opened it and noticed no CD inside it. It dawned on me that maybe the missing CD was also in the player, so I pushed Eject. Out came my CD, so I pushed Eject a second time and lo and behold the CD my wife had played the night before popped out. ;D ;D After calling myself some names, I put in the CD I was wanting to listen to and it worked just as I was expecting. You might want to see if you made the same dumb mistake that I had made. Push Eject before trying to insert a new disc. PS, don't tell anyone what a boner I pulled on that one. ;D ;D After all, that is the first mistake I ever made.

You guys make me smile, you're funny. No I'm that guy who takes the cd out before I turn the player off. That's just the way I am. It's on it's way back to emotiva. They said I should have it back in a couple weeks. It's bitter sweet for me ! Sad something broke, but glad It's under warranty, sad, real sad, about the $58.00 it cost to ship, and insure, that was a fifth, and a twelve if you know what I mean, but glad it won't take too long. I refuse to listen to music through the dvd player, it's that bad. It appears I've become a bit of a snob.

I just shipped a 34lb amp for about half that.

It went UPS ground that was $48 and then $10 for insurance. I agree that is expensive I think it only cost $16 to ship it from emotiva when I brought it a year ago. I went to Postnet which is two blocks from where I live. I actually had a neighbor take me there cause I don't own a car. postnet added a charge for the convenience.

What zip code did you ship it from? Have you checked the UPS site to see what the standard charges are? It seems like Postnet charged you quite a bit for "convenience."

Too bad about your experience, no one wants a component to go faulty on them. Hopefully you'll be soon back in the tunes.

According to the UPS site, a 23 lb package from 89156 to 37064 via ground shipping costs $29.49. That Postnet place sure seems to have added some exorbitant service fees.

Those strip center postal service outlets all add a huge charge to the normal rates. I have my own online accounts with UPS & FEDex. Much cheaper and the accounts are free. I used to use them alot with ebay but over the past year I haven't used them more than 10-15 times. But it's so easy to do everything at your house and then just drop off your package at their stores... ;D
